Kickstart problem

I'm trying to kickstart a 69 T120. Unfortunately whenever I kickstart, the rear wheel moves along w/ it. Gear is in neutral. Any one know what is wrong?

Sangalfie,

Greetings! Try breaking the clutch plates free before kicking it over. With the ignition off and the bike in neutral, pull in the clutch lever and kick through a few times until you get no resistance. Then try starting it.

If that doesn't work, you probably need to adjust the clutch push rod.

The guys here with more experience than me might have some other ideas, too. This community is an amazing resource. Welcome!

If you pull your clutch in can you freely kick? how long has your bike been sitting, its might need to have the plates ungunked. If your bike is neutral, push it forward and backwards a bit to try to free it up. Im not to smart so wait till on of the gurus get on here, they are sure to help you out, they always help a young rookie like me

Kick starting in neutral shouldn't turn the rear wheel. With the rear wheel off the ground and the transmissioin in neutral, the rear wheel should spin free with little or no drag. If there is drag, you might have a high gear main shaft bush or low gear lay shaft bush going south or a bent main shaft.

Hi sangalfie and welcome to TR
Its almost defiantly not separating the plates that is causing your problem, if not your clutch needs adjusting as said.
Take a look at this, its how I start mine,

I do sangalfie
every thing but the cable, its the last one you are after, the clutch push rod bit.
So adjust the push rod first then the cable.
