my first bike (HELP)

just got my first bike. i have a 1973 (jan) t140v. 15000 miles matching numbers mostly origional. thinking of upgrading carbs (any suggestions appreiciated) i can use direction. its in good shape but springing leaks everywhere... seems comon though. and lots of clatter in the top end ... it seems to quiet down after a while but noisy till its fully warmed up. fun ride, i'll keep this sucker forever, i just want to catch up on the previous owners neglect

I moved your thread into our classics section, where there is some solid expertise on these bikes. Cheers and welcome to the forum!

Basically a good bike. Carbs should be Amal Concentric Mk1's - nothing wrong with them if correctly maintained. Now back in manufacture so all parts now available.
Get the factory manual and parts book. Leaks are generally due to previous poor maintenance. Track down leaks one by one until eliminated. Only really difficult one is if the crankcase joint is leaking, then the cases most be split. Push rod tubes can also be finicky but good o-rings and some silicon sealant usually solves.

Welcome to the forum. As for carburators, eh... the original Amals
are nice. Mikunis, can be made to work with some work, do not
go above a 30mm. I have seen vintage Posas before, most of the
time as displays, very have to get right. But for easy, go with
the Amals.

As for leaks, get them fixed, untill then check your oil daily, do not
want to run it dry. Check you valve lash when cold, there is a nice
video done by Plewsy on this subject cover the subject. And if you
have not already change all of your fluids with fresh oils.

1973.

All I remember about this one is that the first six months or so
the 75mm bore was used and came up to the 724cc size. After
that the bore was enlarged to 76mm for the 744 size, but I have
nothing on the engine number where this took place.

Anyone?
