Question layshaft needle bearings

I'm putting new layshaft needle bearings in my 1971 tiger 4-speed. My manual says to leave .073-.078 of the bearing cage protruding towards the layshaft after pressing in. Is this on both bearings or just the primary side bearing? Thanks.

It's just the needle bearing in the case, not the one in the kickstart spindle.

Both primary side and inner cover side. The reason is to help locate the brass thrust washers. There is a pin there too, and corresponding hole in the thrust washers

As Ozbloke says it's for locating (both) the washers, to make sure you've not gone too far into the case slide the washers over & have a look, provided the bearing does not protrude into the case further than the thickness of the washer you should be OK.
