Big bore for 1974 Trident?

Hello, I'm new here and grateful to have found this place. Hope I can contribute as well as learn something new....

I'm considering a big bore project for my 1974 Trident 150V (the biker in my pic). What will this accomplish? More horsepower, speed, or what? Also, any risks or drawbacks?

I love this bike, have had it for 10 years and it's time to give it some real beef. My idea or goal is to make it superbike-like, as it's already got the cafe racer bars and three-into-one exhaust.

Gawd, I love Triumphs!

No hands on knowledge with the old triples, but was at a rally in june, where a gentleman had a 69 BSA RIII with a bigbore kit. (N.Hyde??) According to my buddy, the bike went pretty good with the kit.

And when he fired it up - what a hair raising sound out of those coctail shaker "mufflers"

Would like to have one of those Tridents in the stable some time...

Welcome, Hack.

The thing to do is make sure you re-jet your carbs appropriately so as not to lean out the engine and burn it up.

You'll get a bit more take-off, a bit more power on accelleration, and a bit more top end. NOT MUCH for all the work and expense (in my opinion).

If you also change the cams, have the head mildly ported, and install a Tri-Spark electronic ignition, you'll wake the bike up noticebly. Of course you'll spend more money, time and effort, but the results are a better value if you've got the "play money".

No mistaking that metallic banshee howl when a Triumph triple "comes on the pipe"; I've got (2) 74s and a 75 e-start.
