cooling noises - normal?
Just a quickie. After I ride the bonnie, as it cools down it makes some noises. Like an old tin roof when it rains on a 40degree (c) day.
Is this normal or is hter a missing gasket somewhere?

nope
that's a huge chunk of metal cooling down,
it all depends on how hard you ride it and how far but the engine gets pretty hot quickly

Derek,
Quick, hop into your car, drive to Walmart, just drive through
the parking lot and look cool, you know sunglasses and some
tunes. Then peel out of there and go home. Jump out of the car
make sure the brake is on, and jam your mellon under the car.
And listen.... You will hear the same stuff. Cars are just insulated
better.

Delrazor, don't listen to Pookeybear, he'll get you in trouble with the better half for crawling under that car with your Sunday best cool sunglasses, clothes and all.

Thirdbike,
Humm, you might be right with that, as I see no better half
around my place. Very quiet though, I can hear my engine
cooling down.

Hah. very good. Hey pooky, I dont have walmart in Australia. Is it ok to substitute any kind of large shop? I don't want to get this wrong with such a collectable machine..being a 71 and all...
do you think the old rayban wayfarers are cool enough, or should I try a different heat range? This test isn't in the manual, but maybe in the haynes so i'll wait until I get hold of that to be sure.
Meanwhile.... it is comforting to know I am not experienceing the symptoms of something terrible, so thanks.

Everyone,
A sense of Humor is a must on the Triumph Rat forums. If I did
not have one I surely would have to order one up from one of
the parts jobbers.
And yes I think that test is in the fine print of one of the manuals.
As for a better half, I just need her to know the difference between
standard, metric and whitworth wrenches!!
