Left hand throttle

I have everything torn apart right now waiting on parts to put my clutch back together and I want to make a few changes. Does anyone know of a place that makes a lefthand throttle? Can I just tear apart my throttle and rewrap it the other way to make it work on the left side?

Maybe I'll just build a thumb throttle. I don't know just thinking things over right now.

Hi Poke,

You wouldn't be able to rewrap you existing throttle for the L/H side not unless you want it to work in the wrong direction (could be interesting), the only suggestion I have would be to have someone machine a mirror image of the R/H fitting. As for a thumb throttle, I'm not sure if you would get enough control over the entire range of the engine. I've ridden a few quads and jetskis with a thumb throttle and they seem to be a bit on and off with little control between (or maybe it's just my thumb )

Just a silly idea, could you use a gear change control off a vespa scooter?

I'm sure someone out there will have a better idea

A lot of old Hondas (and other bikes) used a push / pull type throttle. You could use just one side of the cable pull to achieve what you need ...

Couldnt you buy a Bonneville Air Control/front brake lever assembly and convert it to a left handed throttle control/clutch assembly?

even if this was to overcome a disability , i'd think it would be very hard to control the throttle and operate the clutch for proper shifting .

how's about filling us in as to your purpose for this poke .

cheers , Woody

Sorry I didn't put much detail in this. I'm working nights and just woke up too so this may not make much sense either.

I want to jockey shift on the right side and with my ape hangers it just seems like it would be awkward taking your hand that far from the throttle to shift. I can run a foot clutch so thats not an issue.

If there is another way to do what I'm thinking, well "thinking" may be a strong word, give me some ideas. I know I'm not the first to run a jokcey shifter on the right.

Thanks

I've got right and left shift, One down 4 up, reverse pattern(Burman), 4 straight down as well as a heel-toe shifter on my bikes but they all have the throttle in the same place.
I'd venture that a left throttle is asking for a lot of pain.

Call me stupid if you like, but am I to assume that a jockey shift is a hand shift?
If that's the case I'd be looking at leaving the throttle on the right and the clutch on the left. Anything else is just too weird!
