Charging issue

Im stumped on this one,I have a 70 tr6r, alt. is putting out 14+ volts, tried a different battery,after recharging the battery goes low after a few days,no accessories on the bike and has a breaker point ignition.possible key off zener issue? anyone else seen this?

Where did you test the voltage? Right at the Alt or closer to the battery?

right at the ignition switch feed terminal with the cylinder head serving as ground.

Tom I don't have a circuit diagram for your bike but if it's in circuit at all times I'd go for the zener.

But before stumping up more cash just yet disconnect your battery and measure the current leakage.

Or if you have the time charge your battery then disconnect the zener and see if this stops the discharge.

tr6tom,

I really do not know, but for the sake of being complete and
covering all of the odd and freaky try this out.

sometimes enough dust and acid fumes collect on the battery
case and can actually carry voltage. I have seen over the
years as much as 3 volts from a terminal to somewhere on
the plastic case.

A long shot, but you never know.
