Switch out Whitworth for UNF hardware?

Just wondering if people get attacked at bike shows if they have done this.

I have a 68 Bonnie--yes the year they started switching to UNF. So, anything new for that year was changed to UNF. BUT, im finding the PO has put UNF threaded bolts on already. Also, some parts that were Whitworth are UNF (e.g. exhaust fittings) since the exhaust system has been replaced in the past with newer UNF attached threads.

So, basically Im getting sick and tired of ordering Whitwoth bolts and then finding I need UNF. I'm thinking Im going to just change anything on the bike that can be changed (i.e. not anything threaded in the frame or engine casings) to UNF.

THey were changing to UNF anyway so whats the harm? Make maintaince going forward easier.

It's your bike. It all depends on what you want: a nice tidy daily rider or a concourse show piece.
A lot of the Whitworth stuff on especially the older bikes had a menagerie of different sized bolts and nuts for each size. On my Matchless I have at least three different sized 5/16" nuts: 5/16" cross section across the head, 3/8" cross section as well as thin nuts. Several different thread forms add to the fun: Whitworth fine, Whitworth coarse, CEI and BA. Some bolts have a flat profile while others are domed.
If you're heading more towards concourse be sure to get the right bolt/nut profile. You will also want to ensure that it is cadmium plated. Industrial suppliers may not have what you need. Ordering each bolt and nut from a British bike supplier can add up very quickly. If you're going to ride it every day I'd be looking at UNF and stainless to boot. A bit of buffing and stainless can be made to look like chrome.
