Can I run Ceriani forks backwards?

My '67 TR6C came to me as a broken-down dirt bike. It has Ceriani forks (a dream of mine as a teenager) and I'd like to keep them on my rebuild (bobber, not a restoration).

Additionally I'd like to run twin leading-shoe brakes rather than the earlier style (see pics).

Can I run the newer brakes in these forks? The tab the keeps them from spinning is on the left for the older brakes and on the right on the twin leading-shoe ones.

Can I flip the forks, left for right (they'd be facing 180 from their current configuration)?

Additionally, why did the previous owner put sheet metal screws through the rims?

Thanks again!

I would say that yes you can flip the forks around, the original
Slippery Sam had a left side on the right to give it two front
discs. But because of the fork design the right side became
a leading and the left was still a trailing unit.

And the screws are an old hot rod trick, keeps the tire from
spinning on the rim and keeps it on the bead as well.

Screws into the bead of the tire were a substitute for rim locks. These bikes ran a pretty low tire pressure and without rim locks, the tire can rotate on the rim ripping the valve stem right out of the tube. They go flat in a hurry when that happens. If you ever find the need to change the rim screws, don't go too long or you'll puncture the tube.

It was fun looking up 'Slippery Sam' - a lot more fun than trying to get the clutch spring nuts off - Looking up old bikes took me to the AMA Museum Hall of Fame - passing the time with my old heroes like Skip Van Leeuwen - http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/hall...age.asp?id=286

Well, back to work - Thanks for letting me know I can use my forks the way I want. I appreciate your help : -)
