Multiple Questions.

First off, I am trying to figure out the simplest wiring system possible for a '78 T140E bobber. Does anyone have a recommendation for a battery(preferably as small as possible)? Also does anyone know if I can use a single 12v coil opposed to 2 6v? (my manual says to use 2 6 volts, but I already have a 12v at hand) I am completely new to wiring. Next question, what is the NGK equivalent of a Champion N5? or should I not go with NGK? Continuing, any recommendations for a cheap mini tach that is easily compatible? Lastly, has anyone here ever tried to make an oil tank out of a liquor bottle? This is something I am considering trying to do, if you all think it will work. I have no knowledge of the pressure that exists in an oil tank, that's what I am really hoping to figure out. Thanks in advance for any answers to any of my questions.

-I am trying to figure out the simplest wiring system possible for a '78 T140E bobber.

I have seen links to several good ones, and others have been posted here. Do a search.

AGM with about 4AH (I believe) should do it.

- does anyone know if I can use a single 12v coil opposed to 2 6v?

Yes, just make sure the ohm resistance in the primary coil is appropriate to your ignition manufacturer's recommendation.

-What is the NGK equivalent of a Champion N5?

I believe you want a B9 spec, others can advise more appropriately.

-any recommendations for a cheap mini tach that is easily compatible?

I have no experience in these

-has anyone here ever tried to make an oil tank out of a liquor bottle?

It would be fragile and doubt it would survive the vibration. Operating pressure wouldn't be an issue, as it would be vented. Size would make it an issue, i think.

My 68 T120 won't run on NGK's for more than a few miles. I tried two sets and they both fouled pretty quickly. I switched to Champion and haven't fouled since. The oil tank is supposed to be vented to atmosphere I think through the air box on later modles so there should be little if any pressure but there needs to be an adequate amount of oil in the oil resivoir to help dissipate the heat. How big of a wiskey bottle are you thinking about? Then there is the vibration.

http://britcycle.com/help.htm There are 2 'simplified wiring diagrams' on that page that should be quite helpful.

Triumphs like Champion plugs.

Dunno how you'd use one coil for 2 cylinders, unless you're using one of those Harley type dual coils.

You'd be better off building an oil tank from a mini-keg ... or a tank that looks like a keg ... or a cut up oxygen type tank. Those look cool ... liquor bottle will be a challenge ... glass is not easy to work with.

For your tach ... Triumphs use a cable-driven tach ... 4:1 ratio ... if you can find a mini-tach that is compatible, it will work ... Maybe some of the electronic ignitions have electronic tach outputs, but I don't know ... I'm a points guy.

You should start a build thread ...
