When I bought it new it was Blue and silver. A couple of months later I must have hurt someone's feeling because when I came out of this club someone had broken all the lights out and scratched the tank badly. I repainted it jet black w/clear coat. It's been that since '79. Looks good. I've seen a few Trumps in the albums very similar. Frank

Hi Brian Here.
Iv'e posted a similar reply regarding flat spots on accelerating from idle under a topic "reusing carb gaskets"
If the carbs are the amal Mk2 concentrics (930 series) then never reuse the gaskets.
So if your carbs have been stripped for cleaning and new gaskets were not fitted, it coul;d be your problem.
the reasoning is:-
the float chanber gasket not only seals the float chamber it also seals the drillway for the idle jet fuel pickup.
If you remove the float chamber casting you will see a drilway going to the bottom of the float chamber, this is the idle fuel pickup.
Now if the floatchamber has been removed and the old gasket used, it may seem to have sealed (I.E. no leaks) BUT if the gasket is damaged near the drillway then the idle jet cannot suck up enough fuel. The idle air adjustment could then have been incorrectly set in order to get the thing to idle, but with the throttle is increased between idle and 1/4 throttle the carb is using the idle jet and throttle cutaway.
but as i just discussed the idle adjustment is incorrect.
So in conclusion, it's worth fitting new carb gaskets and then checking the idle adjustment.
hope this helps
Brian

TRI-AL: You're surprised that things vibrate loose and fall off? The good news is that it only happens if you ride the bike. You will find that all of the following will become good friends: blue Lock-tight, lock washers, nylock nuts (fasteners) and stainless steel wire. You will spend an inordinate amount of time checking the tightness of various fasteners and replacing light bulbs which have succumbed to vibration. You may also curse a lot, until you kick the bike over and hear that sweet exhaust note and lean into your first corner. Then all will be forgiven. DAGAD's method for synchronizing the carb slides by "feel" not sight is spot on the best way.
I'm assuming that your tank is clean inside and there is no crud interfering with fuel flow. Enjoy your Bonnie! :upthumb:

The strangest thing that I ever lost was the top of the kickstart. Several hundred miles away from home. That made for an interesting journey.

Well guys, I've been away on vacation. Just returned & couldn't wait to hop back on my bikes. Took the 77 out first. Here, what the problem was, was the top cap on the rt carb had vibrated the two screws loose ( couldn't have possbly been MY fault). Upon tightening them, all became well. Runs great. Curious as to how long this will last before I have to get a screw driver or wrench again. In the meantime, riding this gem is like riding a "time machine" I feel 20 yrs younger and in a better time & era when on it. Can't describe it. You have to "experience it". Love the Rocket as well. Hard to tell which puts a bigger smile on my face. Guess it depends on my "mood". Thanks for all the input.

The Rocket is the real time machine! Just crank on it and see how fast time goes by.

Glad to see you got the '77 worked out.

Regards,
Tom
