1969 TR6 bogging off of the charger

Hello all. Newbie here with a question. I have a 1969 TR6 that as of last fall was running great and tuned up extensively. I stored it for the winter and now that the weather is nice am getting it back out. I got it started while it was hooked up to the battery charger and it revs up fine, however, when I take it off it starts to bog and pop. I am confident that the motor is sound and that this is some sort of electrical problem. Anybody have any tips, ideas, etc? Help is much appreciated.

Get a new battery and check the charging system. Electronic ignition?
For a battery I like the AGM sealed batteries. They last and can deliver higher current, and are also maintainance free.

It is electronic ignition. I will try the new battery thing, I just bought one last summer though. Any other thoughts? Help is much appreciated.

Best advice is not to let a bike sit too long, for several reasons.

The battery either needs to be on a maintenance "trickle" charger, or the bike needs to be run above 2500 RPM for 20 minutes or so at a time, at least every other week, to maintain it properly. Weekly is better.
