Voltage Read out for ignition Coil

Having a problem with what I think Is one Ignition coil is going.
My manual says that it is 12v for the readout on the meter. But Im not sure if it is right, My manual is for 79-83 I believe. Can anyone fill me in on what could be the voltage for a 79 750 Bonne Ignition Coils.

Thanks, Brian

I believe these later bikes had Rita or other electronic ignition systems. IF so I know nothing of them as fitted to Triumphs. However many early electronic ignition systems were of the Capacitor Discharge type ( CDI)
These instead of opening out the supply through the coil dump about 600volts into them. If so you wont see any volts at the coil until it fires. then it will be as described. If you listen carefully you can often hear a high pitch whine coming from the unit, that is the oscialltor circuit running to transform 12v into 600 volts to charge up the capacitor.

Hi
If its a stock rita system, then it has
6 volt coils, so 6volts accross one coil
12 accross the two.
