Swing Arm changes from 68-70
I checked J.R. Nelson's book "Bonnie, the Development History of the Triumph Bonneville" [ISBN: 0 85429 257 8]. Looks like there were changes in 68 and 69, but no more in 70.
Here is a quote for the 68 year:
"Frame: A new front frame incorporating a new headlug with extended steering lock shelf (to prevent the possibility of riding off with the lock peg still engaged) and a new swinging arm was introduced. ....The new swinging arm had heavier corner fillets, and thicker section tube (14SWG to 12 SWG) was used from DU81196, providing a considerable increase in rigidity."
For 69, he stated the following, which is ambiguous to me, and contradictory:
"Frame - There were no recorded changes for 1969".
But under the Rear Suspension for 1970, he states: " The new swinging arm was identical to the previous year but manufactured in a heavier gauge material."
So it looks like anything from 68 on would be suitable. I am not sure what he means by the reference to heavier gauge material for the 70 swingarm.
Hope this helps.
