Hello Dagad, In calling it the magneto, I was referring to the stator (part #99-1006) or in the wiring diagram, the alternator, as you mention. Anyhow, I hope the re-wire will get all "three" of these things up and working again. Cheers. :-D

p.s. I can only imagine what a "Joe Hunt" could be.

Joe Hunt made (and I think still does?) magnetos for unit and pre-unit twins. The unit version fits where the points and advance unit are located in the timing cover.
These work independently from the bikes electrics, serving only to provide ignition. The down side is, they stick out from the engine and are prone to serious damage if you drop the bike on the timing side.
Back in the late 70s, early 80s John Minono was racing a Triumph 8 valver with a Joe Hunt magneto fitted in front of the cylinders keeping it away from the road. He was a very sucessful American racer.
So now you can see my confusion? Roy
