HI I need help on my friends bike first of all its a bike thats been chopped and rebuilt (very good condition) Its been sitting all winter and just before the winter it was running rough not exactly sure just that it would run but would'nt stay running....now 5 mths later it wont start at all.. we put new plugs and the wires seem fine its getting spark so im guessing the coils are good ...we kick it over and the compression sounds good but its dead in the water....we took the carb off and nothing seems clogged and its clean...the plugs however were dark black but not oily.....please n e one help...thanks

either the timing is off or theres something blocked up in the carb that you don't know about , i'd pull em apart

i'd check the points/gap before tearing apart the carb.

charge up the battery real good, too, if it has one.

not even a pop?

Got a manual? If ya don't, get one. You're gonna need it. Triumph or Clymer are good.

You did drain the tank completely and refill with fresh fuel, of course? Just a little water makes starting impossible, and old gas don't help any.

And you know all about tickling your Amal(s)? (if you have one)

Check the valve adjustment and static timing. If it ran before, it should run now without changing either one, but
If it was running bad last year there was a reason.

After charging the battery(?) and making sure the points are clean, dry and gapped right. try priming the carb(s) or a shot of starting fluid.

If it fires after a prime but not without one, the problem is in the fuel system. Make sure you're getting fuel (not water and last years gunk) to the carb. If it still wont run, pull the carb(s)
and clean 'em up. Amals are easy and advice free.

If you try everything above and it still won't run, try NEW plugs. I have seen it make the difference.

------------------------------------------------------------------------Hi again OK heres where were at.. we tried kick starting about 6 pumps and then checked the plugs "dry as a bone" ... so then we used starting fluid and it was starting to run maybe 2 -3 seconds ...so i believe it was just running on starter fluid, we took the carb off again and everything looks good on the carb !!!! stumped im guessing the carb is bad whats your guess ..thanks again people for your advice,.....gas is about 5 months old could that be!!!!
