Bike of the Month - February 2010 - Open Nominations
As the title says, nominations are now open for February's Bike of the Month. This time, anything (Well, any Triumph) goes! A poll will be created when the first 10 slots are filled.
Good luck to all!
This months Bike of the Month competition is sponsored by WhiteHorse Gear motorcycle outfitters.
www.whitehorsegear.com
Whitehorse was founded in 1989 to publish and provide quality information and products to motorcycling enthusiasts worldwide.
They currently stock over 1500 products at their offices and warehouse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. They are known as one of the most dependable, comprehensive resources anywhere for motorcycling books, videos, apparel, tools, and accessories. When you browse the Online Catalog, you enjoy up-to-the-minute access to all our products, plus specials and new items not yet advertised elsewhere!
Whitehorse Gear also publishes books for motorcyclists. You can find information for many of the titles we publish on their Publishing website http://www.whitehorsegear.com/publishing/ , and also see what new projects they're currently working on. Writers can learn about their future needs from our Publishing Guidelines.
This month Whitehorse Gear have provided us with a copy of their American Motorcyclist Association "Ride Guide to America".
For motorcyclists looking to explore the byways and shun the highways of the United States, the American Motorcyclist Association's book, edited by the AMA's Greg Harrison, is the ultimate touring handbook.
Written by motorcyclists for motorcyclists, this enriching travel guide is the perfect companion for enthusiasts who understand that the destination is just a good excuse for planning another perfect journey.
The "Ride Guide" features more than 35 special trips spread across the United States, from California's Big Sur Highway to the awesome Rocky Mountains through the Texas Hill Country and Virginia's Shenandoah Valley to Maine's rocky shoreline. These are favorite rides from popular motojournalists like Clement Salvadori, Greg Frazier, Bill Kresnak, Lance Oliver, Grant Parsons, Marty Berke, Dale Coyner, Neal Davis, and Bruce Hansen, all brought together in one book to be read for inspiration and referred to for trip planning details.
Each recommended route is brought to life with full-color photos of the attractions along the way - scenic vistas, oddities, and must-see places. Maps with relief images show the highs and lows of each ride and easy-to-follow point-to-point directions project distances and keep you on track with just a glance. All of the trips are designed to accommodate various riding styles, from sightseeing two-up travelers to sport riders running the curves and polishing their skills.
Also included are some of the best travel articles from American Motorcyclist magazine. Tips on packing, touring, and riding well offer seasoned advice. And, a helpful resource directory of equipment suppliers lets you find quickly what you need to make your next trip complete and enjoyable. Life is short. Buy this book and get on the road to see the best of this wonderful country of ours.
Whitehorse have also thrown in a couple of reflective stickers - so don't delay, remember that we can only accept ten entries for BOTM - get your bike posted and see if you can win the prizes!

Year: 1999
Model: tbird
Eng size: 900
Pipes: stock to TOR's
Seat: Corbin gunfighter
Wheels: stock
my 1st owned bike
heres my tbird cafed, mods:
corbin gunfighter solo seat,
bobbed rear fender,
replaced signal lights to leds,
oval lucas tail light,
pingel petcock,
k & N pod filters,
ace handle bars,
paint job (attitude custom paint shop florida),
monza fuel cap,
60s style grips,
progressive fork springs,
re jet to 40/130,
bar end mirrors,
tank badge,
Super gaiters,
ceramic coat on header (gonna redo in black up to muff),
TOR,s mufflers,
brace made for seat lock as 99 was the boat on and seat was lock on, sanded and polished front forks.
got a zx9r rear shock, just have to swap the spring over and stick it on
On my todo list: looking into putting a 180 wheel on the back, maybe. New cam and header, just might be to much trouble for the extra bhp and ruin the ride, making it all in the top end.
Found this site a while by accident whilst researching new bonnie's and thurx's, and found my self spending more time looking at the tbirds than the bonnie in the cafe photo's. being quite a big guy like the extra braun i suppose.
i two start to use this site for research. fantastic site loads of useful info and pic's. couldn't decide between a tb or tbs. i came down to what ever was available close by in good condition.
i managed to kill hours of time planing on cafein my bike before i even had it. gave myself a budget of $5000 for the whole project.
found a tbird in great condition from a dealer in tampa bay 2 min from home great. $3250 off the lot with a fluid's change. job done. road it for a couple weeks. perfect condtition. most of the riding was to venders, corbin seats, paint shop, exsust work shop the lot.
then striped it and put orders in. want it done asap so i could play.
took 4 weeks and $1800. i was 50 over budget. il live with it.
yes i wanted a tbs at first for the little extra's over the tb. but in the end i had more money to spend on what i really wanted to do. and importantly a clean, tight bike to start as a base, and go from there.
here is what i did in a few weeks ,$5000 budget and the help and guidance of the good people on this site. (thank you for not telling me what to do but what mistakes not to do.)
BIGGER, AS WELL AS THE BEFORE AND AFTER PICS CAN BE FOUND HERE.

1969 Triumph Bonneville vintage roadracer
I built this bike from spare parts I had laying about the shop and out back of the shed. Took me 60 hours from dragging out the front frame section to firing up the engine. It's basically a bone-stock Bonneville 650.
It was my 50th birthday present to myself, to go vintage roadracing with AHRMA. I managed to get in 2 events (4 races) in '07, then had my first full season as a rookie in 2008. I did 13 races at 7 venues: Roebling Road Raceway in Bloomington, GA; Daytona International Speedway; Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI; Grattan Raceway, Belding, MI; Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City; the Sandia Classic in Albuquerque, NM; and Barber's Vintage Festival in Binrminham, AL.
I finished 5th out of 19 racers in Novice Historic Production Heavyweight, racing against hot-rodded 750s including OHC Honda fours!
Tight racing at Barber's-
Before getting to the race at Miller Motorsports Park, I stopped in at the BUB Land Speed Time Trials on the Bonneville Salt Flats, and managed to set a class record of 91.948 with jetting and gearing for tight roadrace tracks and totally different altitude.
I've since upped my record to 97.048 at the "Texas Mile" in Goliad, TX in October 2009, and will be attempting to break "The Ton" there this coming April.
'69 Triumph T120R 650
.020 overbore
Sparx electronic ignition
Dunlop GT 501 tires
Exhaust "upsweep" adapters
Clubman handlebars
Plastic front fender
Betty Crocker cake pan oil containment
Everything else is as stock as it gets.
For you purists: Yes, that's a '70 Bonnie paint job.
...and, NO, I didn't share a helmet with the drag race dude...

2007 Bonnie Black
Man there are some nice machines on this website and in this competition already...... wow.
Here is my entry. It was just featured in the Triumph booth in the Edmonton International Bike show. I just love this bike. It has my blood sweat and tears into it and is getting custom side panels tha commemorate the the 1968 500cc win at Isle of Man.
Here it is at the show. It was a big hit and had hundreds of pictures taken of it which was amazing and a real complement to my ideas and work.
So I started with a basic 2007 Bonnie Black and started from there. I wanted to black everything possible out and build a bit of a cafe racer that was functional and would turn heads. - Tank cover monochrome Union Flag
- Powder coated badges and carb tops and float bowls
- Bobbed tail
- UK tax disk and liscence plate
- Scrambler seat with race cowl
- Front race cowl
- Black cafe bars w/bar end mirrors migrated to the stock mirror locations
- black engine cases and cam cover
- 1959 Wassel Cans with (original to the 59 Bonnevilles) with the Hinkley elbows welded in place
- Airbox removal and open pod filters
- Dynoed 63rwhp
- Dart flyscreen
- Pin striping on fenders and cowls to match the tank
- Hours of work and three different overall designs but this is the last one.
Here it is in touring mode. It doesnt spend much time like this but when I do go for long trips I strap on the custom saddlebags that I striped to match the rest of the bike. I made the adapter brackets for the bags to match the MR Resources soft bag mounts.
And that is my entry. I love this bike and am looking for another to do up. I hope it can impress you enough for your vote.
Cheers!
