Winning Bike of the Month - November

Custom Daytona/Speed Triple

(click for larger image)

This from what originated as an 885cc 1998 Speed Triple T509:
Only the frame, swing-arm & plastics and headlights are remaining original equipment of the bike.

In order to integrate the 2006 Suzuki GSXR-1000 forks, I personally designed and CNC'd all the custom parts to accommodate that - including a complete new Billet Top Triple Clamp.
The handling is completely transformed as is the braking, with the GSXR/Tokico radial system.

For the late-model 147 HP 955 Daytona engine, that involved a lot more than might first be apparent - complete wiring harness with ECM and instruments, airbox, full exhaust system, radiator & oil cooler and even rear fender/battery box.
I also designed & fabricated the electronics mods necessary to make the original low-fuel-level sensor (thermistor) work with the late model ECM & instruments.
The additional 40HP was definitely worth it!

Thank you to everyone who voted for my bike.
Hearty commiserations to all the other participants in the field this month - some exceptionally well turned out bikes and any would have been deserving of winning.

Here are some Fall pictures to commemorate the occasion.

Decided the blue'd exhaust becoming a bit passe and polished it out. Will now let it return to a natural Ti finish from here.

Thumbs up Long live the Gearhead!

TO see someone like DeCosse take a modern sportbike and modify/customize etc. is heartening. Creative talents that find expression one can not only behold but also pilot
intimately round yonder bend, over hills, down through the valley below. Even though the electrical wizardry mated with mechanicals becomes ever more complex, the technical abilities of "The Gearhead" shall evolve in step.

Well done DEcosse,

would be interesting to see some detail pics of the CNC machined components... I love nicely machined stuff!

If you follow my signature link for the GSXR swap, you'll find them all there.

Stunning motorbike!

I've got an 01' and would love to know the details on your engine swap. What year Daytona did you install?

02+ motor (same involved for any 02-06) - the engine itself bolts right in but not a trivial integration. It's a substantial change from the earlier gen.
Full wiring harness plus instruments and R/R required (and a mounting location for the R/R) plus an electronic mod for the low fuel sender are required for the electrical side of things.
Mechanically, you need the oil cooler from the later engine (different fittings - or you could have custom hoses made), airbox, full exhaust system (headers AND can), O2 sensor, brake side rearset (early one interferes with the late header)
Unless you are prepared to undertake all of that, much more efficient to install a 99-01 Daytona engine - you essentially just bolt that in & load the Daytona tune.
