Winner - Bike of the Month - June 2009
Crazywelder72's Bonnie Chopper/Bobber
This project started back in 1996 with a 78 Bonnie 750 motor in a milk crate in pieces and a 1974 Corbon Jentry frame.
The motor: Rebuilt and .060 over, I had to design and machine my own intake manifold in order to fit in the frame. It breaths easy with the help of 2 K&N filters.
The frame: Cut, welded, modified almost everywhere you look, boxed in the front gussets, new bar stops, forward controls, chain tensioner, etc. finished off in powdercoat.
The Controls: Jay Brake billet aluminum with Ness Tech micro switches for all the crap needed.
The Instruments: Stock tach mounted on top of the headlight basket and a 1" oil filled gauge for to keep tabs on the oil pressure. No Speedo....I don't want to know how fast I'm going.
The Bars: 1" drag
The Pipes: Drag, no baffles
The wheels: Front, stock 78' rebuilt with s.s. spokes and powder coated the hub, rear 68' rebuilt on a 4'' rim with s.s. spokes. I machined a new rear axle myself and dressed it off with castle nuts and safety wired in place.
The fenders: Front was a inexpensive stock HD fender and I cut off the brackets and made my own. Rear started as a flat 7.5" fender and I sectioned the heck out of it to make it. The rear fender took almost 40 hrs of cutting, welding, and grinding to complete.
The Tank: I didn't make it but i did work with the manufacturer closely and dimensioned it all out for them.... it fit like a glove.
The seat: I fiberglassed the pan myself (with some help from my father) and worked with the skilled craftsman at Danny Grey. The finial design is made from Shark skin, Stingray, and of course leather.
The lamps: The tail light is a wing mounted navigation lamp from a WW2 bomber. I gutted the original bayonet bulb socket and was able to mount a new one for a 1157 bulb with 2 filaments (running/brake). The blinkers are cheapies but match the style of the aircraft lamp and i loaded them with LED's.
The Wiring: Internal where ever possible and Boyer Elec. Ing.
