can you recommend a pair of boots?

hi all. i am a new rider and i need a good pair of riding boots. i have looked at various models and have so far been unable to find a pair i like. being that i have a bonny i want to have something that fits with the "retro" look of the bike, but still have the safety features we all want in a boot. of specific importance is a good shift protector and heel guards. i also need something that provides good arch support and a sole which will not melt on the pipes if i happen to touch it. when i took the hd riders edge course the instructor wore a pair which i liked but forgot to get the brand name. for lack of a better description these looked like a bootie. they were a soft material, presumably leather, which laced up. if you could help me i would appreciate it. has anyone had experience with the triumph branded boots, especially the ones with the sympatex? thanks for the help, keith

I wear Daytona boots

Very comfortable, dry, easy to walk in. they aren't retro, but under Jeans they look very neutral.

Whether riding my motorcycle or my bicycle, I like Sidis. However, it is best to try shoes on first...particularly those that come from Europe as they sometimes are built around narrow lasts and can be a little tight for Americans. Also, all-leather combat boots are a great choice for riding. Though they do not have shift pads or shin guards, they are very affordable and available in virtually any size. The black ones take a great shine, too.

As far as combat boots go, get the steel-toed aircrew boot. The tread is a bit less aggressive, and the steel toe holds up to the shifter.

Sidi

I own a pair of these Sidi Canyons and Triumph boots.

Got me a pair of these just over a year ago. Wear them almost every day. Can ride miles and still wear them at work for 9 hours a day. Comfortable as any casual shoe I own... A bit pricey, but worth every cent spent. If I had to do it all over again, I'd have bought two pairs of these instead of the Triumphs...

Having had many different tpyes of boots over the years the two best i have had for a good compromise of walking and riding are the old Bates boots and I currently use Timberland lace up work boots which look retro, are very comfortable and waterproof. Probably the best "forever" boots are the Aerostitch Combat Touring boots, but they are $270.00. YMMV...

Is this way off base?

I wear a pair of Dr. Martens. I know they're not "motorcycle" boots. They are very English though!

Until this week, I've used Prexport 230WP cruiser-type boots (http://www.prexport.com/Catalogo/Cat...tom%2FBoots%2F) - I'd imagine they'd suit the Bonnie well.

Not too expensive (£80 = $160), waterproof and comfortable enough to walk in. Plus they survived a low speed crash with barely a scratch. Zip up one side plus a little velcro at the top.

Anything by Daytona. Excellent quality, comfort and superb crash protection. They are also rebuildable by the factory.
