Harness boots vs regular riding boots
Hi Guys-
Been a while since I've been on here, hope everyone is doing well! With Valentine's Day fast approaching, I have a boot question to throw out to you. My husband really loves the "harness" style of boots, they are sort of like a square-toed cowboy-looking boot...and I was just wondering if anyone who owns a 1997 'Tona has tried this style of boot? The reason I ask is because the rather high squared toe (some brands moreso than others) seems like it might interfer with the gear shifter...? But maybe not? Does one need to get UNDER the shifter on 'Tona, or is the standard shifter one of the "rocker" styles? If it is a rocker style I don't think there'd be an issue.
I may just end up getting, both, the harness style boot for everyday play and walking about, and then, also get some nice, comfy riding boots. Maybe Puma's? What do you guys recommend for basic sport touring/everyday riding? (Currently my significant other wears sneakers! Nice, huh?)
Best to all and thanks much for any input!

Hey LadyHawk.

Get any of the road boots made by Sidi. Worlds best boots in my opinion.

You can adjust the height of the shifter on a Daytona quite easily. Loosen a bolt and rotate an arm. You don't need much, then retighten nut.

Sidi by all means. I've tried riding in another pair of boots and it just doesn't work. Shifter is not a rocker as you described (cruiser style) and is easily positioned by adjusting the double threaded shaft.

I hate to be the wet blanket but if you ever have a warranty problem with Sidis in the States you are screwed. Moto Nation is the importer and they suck!

ladyhawk, As long as the harness boots are 'walker' style (no spine in front of the heel) they should be fine. If your husband has to walk alot after riding it's a better choice than riding boots...my $.02.

Ive been using the Icon Field Armor Boots. They are very comfortable for walking. Only downfall is they are bulky...had to adjust the shifter to get them under it.

ladyhawk,

Yikes-your significant other wears sneakers when riding?

Thought the harness style boot will offer better protection than a sneaker, I'm not sure these kind of boots provide the protection recommended for sport riding/touring.

I wear Alpinestars SMX-R and highly recommend them. I've done some 8 hour riding days and they're plenty comfortable. I wouldn't want to walk very far in them though.

Let us know what you end up going with.

I moved the thread to the more applicable part of the site as you may get more info from other members who may not goto the Daytona section.

I'm not sure what Harness type boots are, but I'd be willing to bet that, if your guy were sliding down the road with his leg under the bike, they wouldn't afford the protection of a dedicated riding boot. And sneakers are a joke. All it takes is one good crash, with a broken collarbone, in my case, to understand that you can get seriously hurt, even at low speeds without the right gear. I have the SIDI Vertigo boots, and they are very good riding boots. I've heard the Puma's are good too. And I have a good story about Motonation. My warranty had expired on a 2 year old pair of Vertebras, and I'd always had an issue with a fold (flaw) in the material under the big toe area. I couldn't ride in the boots any more, the pain was so bad from shifting. I contacted Motonation, and they said send them in and they would see what they could do. I expected that maybe they would repair them, but a few weeks later, I got a brand new pair of the new Vertigo boots in the mail. So I have no complaints with their customer service. LadyHawk, get your guy a good pair of boots. No one should skimp on good quality gear when riding sportbikes! Good Luck!
