Triumph boots?
I'm in the market for a pair of REAL motorcycle boots. I like Triumph's Highway Boot. Does anyone use that boot? It is the traditional biker boot, the engineer style. How comfortable are they for walking, and are they fairly waterproof? They seem reasonably priced.

I wear 'em and love them when riding. I usually slide into some slip on vans when I'm home for the day, but I've worn them all day before with no real problems.

I've worn a pair for 3 years about 21,000 miles. Decent riding boot, almost water proof, uncomfotable to walk around in all morning or afternoon at an event. They make my lower back hurt. Warm though. I think I'll get the higher ones next time.

I have no experience with those boots, but I did like them when I was looking. But I think this is a better topic in the Boot section.

For the price of the Triumph Highways, you should go with either Chippewa or Carolina engineer boots. I can dig the loyalty to Triumph, but when wearing gear buy from folks that specialize in that area. Chippewa's been making boots longer than Triumph's been building bikes--and a helluvalot longer than they've been stitching leather. I don't chat much on the web, but I've been riding for over 30 years, and wearing those products since the beginning. Waterproof? Put some Snowseal on 'em.
You can find some good deals on the web. Check out, for instance:

Happy trails!

Got the Boot
Did a lot of reading and walking around the shop floor before deciding to buy me a pair of Riding boots.
I had the same prereq's... Waterproof, good support and protection, comfortable enough to wear all day in the office.
I got me a pair of Sidi Canyon Boots. A bit on the deer side, but knowing what I know now, I would easily pay more all over again!
They are fantastic all round!

After a full research - I shot the lock off the wallet and bought the Sidi Canyon Gor-Tex as well. Like Saffer, I had a hard time with the price but now in hindsight they are worth every penny of what I spent and I would do it in a NY Minute all over again.

Red Wing
Hey Tshadow...
If you are into the "engineer boot" old school style, I would second some of the other opinions here about looking around at other brands.
I bought a pair of Red Wing lace-up, side-zip 979's about three years ago and they have proven very comfortable for walking and indestructably constructed with motorcyclists' needs in mind. After 3 years, they are still in great shape and my main choice of footwear when I ride. And they are made in the USA.

One thing about lace front, old school, engineer style boots. Depending on your style of bike and riding position, they are not the best choice if you ride in rain a lot - no matter what brand shoe you choose. Hence, I am looking around for a second, sportier style, waterproof boot (maybe a pair of SIDI's). But whatever my second pair tuns out to be, in most cases, the Red Wings would continue to be my main choice for everyday riding.
Happy shopping!
