I bought the combat lites. They are great boots and very well made. Make sure to double check your sizing. I wear a 9 US. and they sent a 43 EU which actually translates, according to Aerostitch, to an 8 3/4.
Also, they are less armored than some other boots. The toe cap is heavily covered- but I am not certain if it is even plastic or just extremely heavy canvas. There is no ankle guard and no additional dragging parts on the sides of the sole or heel.
Ultimately, they are a great compromise. They are very strongly made, offer very decent protection, are virtually waterproof, and can be worn off the bike without having the "road warrior" attention drawn to them.

Considered

.. I considered a pair, but I just didn;t feel comfortable with out the ankle cups. I believe they are truely well built and wear like iron, so if the ankle cup doesn;t matter to you, they are just the ticket.

so I pulled the trigger on a pair of combats... I ordered the combat lites but they were backordered, so I said what the hell, I want boots... glad I went with the taller combats since the warm pipe problem on my scrambler is COMPLETELY mitigated now. I'm very happy so far (comfortable out of the box and very well built), but how long do they take to stop squeaking when you walk around???

For putting around on a summers night on your old R65, these boots are hard to beat. Not so good for aggressive sport riding. I intend to buy a pair for putting around the local backroads. I have been warned that they take a long time to break in.
