These work for me and I can vouch for their impact resistance.

Triumph Explorer II

I don't see much talk about Triumph boots but I absolutely love mine. I wore them for a week straight while I was on my BRP trip because I didn't have room to pack another pair of shoes. They were comfortable the whole time and easy to walk in. I have actually worn them with the little short socks before and they were still comfortable.

LoVel,
I would have bought the Triumph Explorer boot too if it came in my size. It seems Triumph think feet don't get bigger than the european size 46. Too bad. They lose a lot of sales in the bigfooted US of A.

RJays Altitude Boot

In my first post on page 3, I noted my Oxtar SS performance boots which I have had for 2 1/2 years.

The Oxtars I still like but the uppers seems to be cracking a bit which is unfortunate as they don't leak yet but look like they will soon.

My wife bought me a pair of RJays (Australian brand) Altitude boots late last year and I am very happy with them.

http://www.rjays.com.au/home/product...de-boots.html#

I have the blue ones which match the bike, my leathers and my Suomy lid.

Very reasonable here as they are $249 AUD, I got a discount and got them even cheaper and the Oxtars were $299 AUD almost 3 years ago.

Comfortable, don't leak so far and are very well armoured.

Excellent value for money like a lot of RJays products.

I finally gave up on motorcycle specific boots several years ago. I bought two pair of Red Wing boots from a local shoe store. One pair is insulated for cold weather riding, the other pair is for the rest of the year. They have worked out great. Very comfortable for walking once I am off the bike - and from day one - no break-in needed. They have a good reputation for durability as well. I've have no issues with using them for riding. Not as stylish as motorcycle boots perhaps - but in this category I'll take comfort over looks in a heartbeat.

I used to wear Doc Marten Wellingtons, but I haven't been able to find them anywhere in town. They were the best boots for everything I encountered: riding, walking, standing and working on cars (TRULY slip resistant, steel toe, padded ankles, super comfortable). Downsides: the insoles don't last very long, the leather on the toe wears out quickly, and they're not lined for super cold winter riding, nor are they water proof, but I have a pair of British gaiters and thick socks to take of those problems.

The boots I'm currently using are Cat Colts. Essentially the same as the Docs, but they only come in brown, don't have padded ankles, are slightly more comfy, have a taller steel toe (requiring shifter lever adjustment) and the boot opening is slightly narrower (rubs against my calves). Definitely second best.

The thing I like about both of these boots is that they're both around $100 and how easily they can be put on or taken off. No laces, velcro, straps, or magic spell holding them on. Put em on, and walk away. Take em off and relax. Of course, I'm the type of guy that doesn't untie shoes when he takes them off, and thinks checkerboard slip-on Vans are the best shoes ever made.

My two cents.

These work for me.
They are waterproof, you don't notice them while riding the bike and they are also fine for walking.

I'm not sure if the laces would get in the way but they sound like they would hold up to most grinding. They are supposed to be "chainsaw resistant"...Whatever that means..

I would go with the Vibram sole, but the calks could come in handy for kicking the door of a cage that just cut you off.
