Anyone here use Red Wing boots?
I was wondering what is the practicality of wearing Red Wing Brand Boots.
They are super hardcore workman's boots, not exactly made for riding but that grip is unparalleled.

Thoughts?

Wear motorcycling boots for riding, period. Red Wing boots are great for their intended purpose, but won't offer the ankle (interior & exterior) and shin armor of a dedicated bike boot. Some of the proper riding boots have excellent grip, too, with oil resistant soles, etc. Check out the TCX X-Five. I love mine; the most comfy boot I've ever worn, good protection for the street, and great grip.
Everyone will have their own favorites, and some will say 'sure, wear anything you like', but do yourself a favor and get the right tool for the job: an actual motorcycling boot.

Red Wing MOTORCYCLE Boots
Red Wing claims that some of their boots are for motorcycle riding. Here's the link.

However, like Ken says, Red Wing boots may not offer motorcycle specific features other than the sole perhaps. Few years ago, they had a model for motorcycle riding, and I asked how they were different from regular working boots. At the time, they specifically said the only difference was the sole, nothing else.
Red Wing Boots are cool though.

I just brought a pair of 971. The fitting by the store manager was over the hill and unexpected. He took his time and explained the reasons for the fitting process. He also pointed out the free life time services like the oiling and new laces. Took his advice to wear the boots several hour a day for a few days at home to break them in. They are now as comfortable as slippers.

Chippewa makes an excellent line of MC boots that are made in the USA ala Red Wing. I think they are a very favorable comparison for comfort and quality. As was said earlier, the right tool for the job.

I have a pair of Red Wing's throwback boots, the 'Gentleman Traveler' (lol). Great looking, not terrible for comfort. I ride in a pair of Danner Combat boots but have putted around town in my Red Wings. They work for the purpose.
Please note that Red Wing has moved most of their manufacturing overseas so if you are a buy American sort of dude you should look elsewhere.

Chippewa and Redwing both made riding boots at one time and I think Chip still does.
I've worn Chunka boots and combat boots. Monkey boots. I even rode in sneakers when I was young and stupid.
My favorite... (stand by for the groan) is 18 year old Doc Martins. Thick leather, indestructible. They were from a work boot line they carried back then. I had them resoled last year because the quality just can't be replaced.
Hardcore riding boots can not be walked in comfortably on arrival. Docs can.

I've ridden in Red Wings, Chippewas and various Alpinestars boots. I like them all. Red Wings or Chippewas when I need footwear that's more normal looking and Alpinestars when I don't.

I'm almost in the market for a new pair. I keep looking and the one thing that grabs me most often is the price. Some of these M/C boots are pricey! I guess the racer boots are needed when you buy the racer leathers, to ride on the street.
Anyway, one point about Red Wing is that you can buy them in most widths in any size. Many of the M/C boots go by size only. My foot is a little wide, but not real long (11 2E). I really want to try on a boot before buying. I've found that even Red Wing's vary in their fit depending on the style. Some are too tight across the top of the arch for my foot to even get in, but yet the same size & width in a different style is a good fit.
Just some thoughts,
Alex
