To cruise control or not. Although not technically cruise controls, the listed devices provide a friction drag on the throttle (sufficient to offset the return spring tension but still allow full throttle control) that is easy to activate, adjust and release on the fly. Yes, there are less expensive options but these units are my preference.
I've installed Throttlemeisters on two recent bikes and found the relief they provided for my right hand to be invaluable. The unit is pricey but serves the dual function of cruise control and bar end weight and includes a matching weight for the left side.
The Kaoko unit, while somewhat less expensive, provides only for the right side and does not serve as a bar end weight. I chose this unit for my T100 as there is a bar-end mirror on the left side. I was not impressed at first by the appearance of the knurled edge of the grub screw. However, quickly found that knurling to be of great benefit as the lock is easily applied/released using only the little finger. I'm well satisfied with it. Well, almost. I might paint or powder coat the supplied end cap black.
Installation is quite simple and requires only a couple of allen wrenches. The bundled step-by-step instructions are complete with pictures. Really, it is a simple installation so I’ll not detail it here. Basically, take out the old and put in the new and adjust.
There was one aw-shucks moment after installation. When fully applied, the cruise control put no drag on my throttle. I realized, after the initial panic subsided, that if the cruise control did not reach the throttle, move the throttle unit closer to the cruise control. My throttle unit is now adjusted so that ¾ turn of the cruise control provides sufficient drag.
