1971 Triumph Identification Number Confusion

Hello,

I'm new to TriumphRat, and this is my first posting. I have recently purchased my first Triumph motorcycle project....for restoration.

I purchased this bike with matching numbers believing it was a 1971 650 Tiger (according to the previous owner). After bringing the bike home, I noticed the numbers on the frame and engine match, but are slightly different from the Title. The last letter stated on the Title is "R" to signify a Tiger, but the last letter stamped on the frame is "C" that would signify a Trophy.

Frame: DExxxxx T C (double space between T & C)
Engine: DExxxxxTR6
Title: DExxxxxTR6R

I plan to take the title to my license branch to transfer to my name, but am wondering how I can explain this to the clerk to avoid any confusion. Am I to assume that I own a Triumph 650 Trophy rather than a Tiger? I believe the only difference between the two for 1971 is the exhaust setup.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks!
