Hot Hot Hot

Well, normally being an ATGATT rider, it was 103 degrees yesterday (with the heat index it felt like 107) and though I road to work with my mesh jacket on, I just said "shoot" and road home in my tee shirt.
Man was it nice. I still wore my gloves and full face helmet.
But it made a big difference.
So is it kosher to occasionally break form and live dangerously?

Well... if no-one saw you, it may be Halal, yes.

I get that urge now and then... it was in the high 90's when I got out to work... but just the other day I was winged by a Taxi's side mirror while wearing the mesh... made me lose the urge for 3 or 4 weeks!

You just have to ask yourself, do you feel lucky.

I have gone without the pants before but never the jacket.

Riding pants that is. Always have at least jeans on.

If you wanted some level of protection you could look at Icon's Field armor or Alpinestar's Bionic 2 lines of items. The Field armor is a "stunter's" vest that, at the very least, covers your back and midsection. My wife and I both have that. I know were are taking a risk leaving our arms exposed, but at least my core is protected :|

My wife and I will be riding the Tiger up to the Brickyard MotoGP
in September. We will be wearing our jackets then!
Hope to see you there.

Talking

LoVel - you had me worried there for a moment: "I have gone without the pants before..."

I've got to admit that sometimes just popping around town, I'll do without the jacket. Boots, jeans, t-shirt, gloves and helmet yeah, but sometimes in 90 or 100 degree heat, I've left the jacket behind.

Out on the open road though, even in the heat, I've got that mesh jacket on. Amazingly cool in the heat as long as the wind is flowing through it. I couldn't believe the difference between the mesh jacket and my old non-vented, leather jacket... The heavy leather jacket will still get the nod for cool weather riding though.

So yeah, I cheat in the heat, on casual in-town rides. Cost could well be some road rash someday... Hope not...

I preface this comment with tongue firmly in cheek:

I choose not to fall. So I go ALGAP.

On me Speedy ATGATT. On me wife's Piaggio...shorts, tee, half helmet, goggles, and sneakers. Did I mention I've seen 85 indicated on the Piaggio's speedo? Dumb? Methinksso.

I'm with you 77, I choose to wear what's comfortable so I don't pass out or go vague with heat stroke. I also then ride for the conditions and the amount of gear I'm wearing and choose to stay upright....

You all are really cautious. Being fairly new to riding, Im not comfortable without a jacket. I dont trust myself. It's odd to see anyone around here ride with more than a long sleeve t shirt and a leather vest on their body though. That's just too risky to me.
