And, yeah, the Daytona bikes looked a lot like the Japanese sportbikes, but you don't usually call them 'clones'. So why call this T-Bird a clone? It has the style of a particular type of cruiser. THere are other styles, too. I imagine we'll be seeing this engine and frame done up in one or two of the other styles of cruiser.

It's more a question of how well the model is executed in terms of rideability and performance. It isn't going to compare closely with Harleys in those areas, I don't believe.

The way I see it, that isn't what this thread is about at all. The poll is just a sideshow.

This thread is soliciting opinions on an entirely new and unique powerplant Triumph has developed. It just so happens that Triumph is marketing it in a cruiser configuration. That seems to have made most people (Triumph fans, no less) unhappy.

A 1600cc powerplant producing 100hp is actually kinda lame.

The 1100cc Ducati 1098 produces 160hp
The 1350cc ZX-14 produces 180hp
The 600cc Yamaha R6 produces 120hp

Even among bikes in it's class, it's lame-

The 1800cc Suzuki M109 produces 127hp.
The 1250cc Harley VRod produces 122hp.
The 1700cc VMax produces 197hp.

So what if it's a paralell twin? Does that matter? Do paralell twins get some kind of sympathy points for being a poor design?

The aesthetics of repli-racer sport bikes are limited by aerodynamic necessity. Some look nice - Ducati, Honda RC51, some look stoopid - GSX1000.

IMO, the motor doesn't look quite as wide as one might imagine it would be.

If it didn't have that ****ed canteen, I'd hit on it like it was Salma Hayek in my bedroom...

A fine effort in breaking into the big league "CRUISER" market...For those of us who ride cruisers (25 k plus miles a year/ cross country / and daily driver) this gives us another great option.... Just think how different that sound is going to be if you drill those megaphones....The bulk in width is great as is the larger rear tire. The fact is Triumph doesn't have an offering I can just jump on and scoot in comfort to Sturgis on without looking ridiculous on the Rocket....(sorry about that)

I guess yaw'all don't realize just how puny Bloor's sales specs are in the American market...yet as 'niche' bikes the trumps sell out and he has kept sales growing (one of the few to achieve this recently)....Each and every one of these will be sold....

This puts Triumph on the map with an offerring that's competitive...if it does well (as I am sure it will), with the option to expand the niche...

It ain't ever going to have an affect on Hardley sales, on kawasukis or hondayamas....but it doesn't have to.

yeah I have a Scrambler and love it for what it's good for, but puuulease quit this winning about a cruiser looking like a ...a....omygod....a "CRUISER" .......

uh oh...gotta so...Salma wants to go riding.....

My $.02 worth

I own a 2007 Speedmaster and I don't care for the new 1600.
I would much rather see them do it in a Standard or Thruxton style.
That would make me want to trade my Speedy.

Not to change the subject (since this thread was going so well ), but I didn't know Triumph came out with a Rocket IIII. Is that part of the new line-up too?

I have no interest in it but I`m sure it will sell well. Metric cruisers sell by the bucketload out here, most of the Jap cruiser owners like the looks of the America/Speedmaster but dont buy them because there is a perception that the powerplant is too weedy.

A lot of cruiser riders like big motors (I have no idea why) but the R3 is just too much of a handful for them, so this new Thunderbird will give them a cost competitive alternative to the Jap stuff, with the bonus of more acceptable branding.

Yes for some a Rocket is too much, but for us Rocket riders we like that it is unique and we love our Rockets.

This new Triumph cruiser is going to have some stiff competition. Victory, HD and a slew of Japanese bikes as well. My question is going to be where will it be manufactured? If it is in England then I may be able to overlook some of its short comings. To many of us the Triumph being manufactured in England is very important. JMOP

Well it has been so long since I have logged into this forum that I could not remember my user name and password. So anyway I registered again as I have been lurking and up until now had nothing to really add to anything being discussed here.

Well this whole thread had me rolling around in laughter. Firstly most of you are so worried about it being a clone or rip off of some other bike. Now let me remind all of you me included that ride any Triumph twin that they are all in fact a clone of a time long since gone. Even the logo Triumph is no longer original. So all you clone riders that are so concerned about it being a clone maybe you should give a bit of thought before making this statement.

Now we talk about it also being a Jap look alike very interesting when the Jap bike were born from what the British were doing. I remember back in the 70’s riding my 60’s Bonnie and coming across a 650 Yamaha that was a twin to what I had. I cannot remember the exact model of this Yamaha now.

Once again the HD comes into it. Now what makes HD the benchmark of what a cruiser is anyway? If Triumph had to make a V Twin it would still be what it is “A British Designed Bike”. Now for me that is what it is all about riding “A British Designed Bike”, pity that most of you just don’t get it. Do you think Triumph did not do their homework on this one as they have on all the other models that have been a huge success story?

Quite sad the way most of you are ripping apart the very soul of what you are supposed to be about.
