Genuine Articles

I just need to vent...

My wife and I went for a very nice, long ride yesterday, to an Illinois State Park. In the Guest Center was a restaurant and a Souvenir Shop.

In the Souvenir Shop you can purchase "Genuine Indian Articles" like miniature war drums, leather and feather laden pouches, Feathered head-dress, moccasins, arrowheads etc. The local tribes include the great Illiniwek, and the fearsome Potawatomi.

Flip over the label and the artifacts are all... "Made in China".

Gimme a break.

Glad my BA doesn't say genuine British bike. I can't turn it upside down to check on Made in.....
I know what you are talking about, also love packaging that has an American flag to indicate a US company. And under that it says made in where ever. Ahh, a global economy.

Well, since you mentioned it!

Congratulations, you have hit my China Bashing button! Just have to rant for you a bit.
China has been systematically raping the US of money for the last 50 to 80 years by manufacturing items much cheaper than they can be made anywhere else.
The flow of money from the US to China is like a landslide as durable consumer goods are flowing into this country at an unprecidented rate and the US dollar is flowing out to them at the same rate as well.
Everything you buy with your greenback dollars that has the infamous "Made in China" label on it means that that money is leaving our economy and strengthening China's. Everyone here must google the words "us fair trade made in china" to inform yourself what a huge impact this has on our economy.
If you really want to dig into it, google "Tibet and China" and read about China's mass killings of a peacful Bhuddist nations people and think again before you buy anything that has that label on it.
I could go on but don't really need to...if you are remotely interested and care about the US and the economy here and your future in that economy, go online and educate yourself, read a book called "a year without "made in china" one familys experiences.
I can almost guarantee that a majority of us here have absolutely no idea of just how bad the situation is. It is only through our education and influence in voting and writing your congressmen and representatives that we can even have a tiny influence on trade with a nation that would attack us without hesitation if it felt like it and murders innocent buddhist populations and makes their leader leave the country.
Okay...enough from this end...thanks...

Koifarm,

You don't need to tell me. I predict that China will take over the USA, of course just after taking over just about everyone else worldwide beforehand, within 25 years.

Sniveling, cowardly, selfish money mongers here in the USA could care less, but they individually have no idea what a ruthless monster they are collectively creating.

First you rid a country of it's manufacturing and pride, then you eradicate it's middle class, then you manipulate it's wealthy puppets, then you take over.

A recipe used for thousands and thousands of years. China is no fool. Hope the descendents of the money mongers enjoy their roles as slave labor.

Let's get happy!

I'm not sure how they're going to take over the country without bullets. For now all their lead is being used in the manufacture of toys.

That tears it! They're gonna take away our kids toys, make 'em cry, and melt down those toys for bullets. It all starts to make sense...

I knew something was up!

How come you've just noticed !

It's the US, Europe, and every other western country that has been sending their designs and technical know-how to China, India and other cheap labour countries to have their products manufactured, China hasn't been doing all this by themselves !

However there is some good news for labour within the West, help is at hand from an unknown source ! Oil !

The cost of transport has put an equation into cost manufacturing that is outweighing cheaper labour. Furniture is now being manufactured again in the US and bulk items that are too costly to transport internationally. Coupled with high manufacturing energy costs more and more items will be made locally in each country, particularly those countries where oil is not the main energy source.

Ride on !

I'll join in on the China bashing here. During the 4th of July we went to get the kids some flags to wave around, etc. Went to Wal-Mart of all places and when we looked on the flags, guess where they were made.

I was so pissed

Mall Wart is by far the leader in the trade deficit with China.
