I haven't checked, so I might be wrong, but I've heard that more US servicemen died in the Darwin bombing raids (which lasted for weeks) than at Pearl Harbour. But the figures weren't released until a few years ago, as it was considered too damaging to morale, at the time.
Much of the movie was filmed in Bowen, which is about 500 miles south of here. So we've been hearing all about it for the past 18 months.
The locally filmed WWII flic I'm looking forward to is Pacific. The Speilberg/Hanks production of McArthur's island hopping campaign. I was riding the Scrambler around the back roads close to their Rocky Pt location, & some of the explosions were so loud, I actually felt them rumble the road through my handlebars!

I can't wait to see what that looks like on film.
