I remember reading something about it a few years ago. Some even said it was the property of some gangster who ran away from justice and left the collection just sitting there.

The truth is a bit less colorful: http://www.snopes.com/photos/automobiles/barnfind.asp

Thanks Hedge.
That story restored my faith that something good can still happen in this world of rising gas prices and loud aftermarket exhausts.

Yeah but can you imagine the chore of registering and insuring all of those vehicles. He'd have to set up camp at the DMV.

It's a shame it's not real. But I was thinking, as I read it, that a collection of such historically significant vehicles couldn't just go missing, without some sleuth tracking them down. Most of those cars are so rare, that every model ever made is fully accounted for (or is the object of some serious treasure seeking)
A nice collection, no doubt. But with 35mil of precious metal in his collection, you think he'd take better care of them. Would it kill him to clean them? & just imagine how seized up the running gear must be? Leno would not be pleased.

This story has been an "urban legend" for a year or so. The "find" is actually a private collection, if you will, of a car dealer or someone with money who just locked them away. From what I heard after the story first came out, there was no property sale; if there was, the cars weren't part of it.

Hate to wreck a great story, and if I'm wrong...correct me: Jim

.
Remember the Schlumph Collection? All those Bugattis hidden away for years and only came to light when the brothers went banckrupt. They were claimed by the French government and now form the core of the French National Motor Museum at Mulhouse. A truly spectacular collection.
