Shock, Horror, Gasp, Probe Inquiry....Imagine, Hollywood using something other than a vintage bike....

The 50 Ford the Hot Rod races at the start has modern radial tires on it too

But...ITS JUST A MOVIE....

I liked it

That's funny Ace, I though it was a new HD when I saw the disc as well. Didn't pick up the Rod tyres, but that's not surprising.

I saw it last night (for the record 2 adult, 1 child and popcorn - huge size to share, with coke came to AUD$58).

I guess they only use real classics when they want to smash them up!

Example: the 57 Caddy Arnold drove off a cliff in one of his brand X action flicks.

That's a pretty harsh statement, one that some may take issue with. If the bike is supposed to be a post war Harley, then it would be perhaps the best choice for the performance. Granted, there would have been some specFX.

But as with most vehicles of the early part of last century, they were built to withstand a lot more than what they are today.

http://www.theliberator.be/liberator1.htm is another good essay on the Harley WLA, that the bike in the film is supposed to represent.

Mick,
First and foremost, the post was supposed to be FUN, and I did use the phrase "I suggest" before Suggesting that the old Harley might not be as high performance as portrayed in the film. I would hate to have someone "take issue" with something that was supposed to be enjoyable, not "harsh".

Why do these threads lately always turn into confrontations??? Weird. Let's have fun guys.

Anyway, just daydreaming there. At any rate, the spirit of the thread was to have a little fun while viewing a fun movie. I had a lot of fun watching the movie anyway.

Some points to ponder:

1.) The WLA Harley weighed 540 pounds, had 23.5 horsepower, and a top speed of 65 MPH. Not exactly a screamer... agreed? I'll stick with my original fun suggestion that the bike "Suggested" in the movie couldn't reach the Performance illustrated in the movie.

2.) I'm not so sure that it is a fact that the WLA model was the one being depicted in the movie, in my humble, suggested opinion. Others have suggested different models. In the spirit of FUN, what model do we think it is.

3.) Your quote "But as with most vehicles of the early part of last century, they were built to withstand a lot more than what they are today." Hmmm... not so sure. In the 64 years since WWII, I would "suggest" that Harley Davidson, along with many other vehicle manufacturers, have improved tremendously on materials, design, manufacturing practices, etc. This statement sounds perhaps overly nostalgiac? I may be wrong. With all due respect, some examples?

My apologies in far advance if I misread the intent or content of your post, cheers.
