Not to steal the post about Indiana Jones, but I remember going to the outdoor theater to watch Brando and Lee Marvin in "The Wild Ones" and hearing tons of bikes coming in and taking the first four rows in front of the screen. That was the start of my fascination with bikes.

I thought Lee Marvin was on a Norton? So much for my memory. I'll check out the new Indiana Jones.

It is a new HD with a fake kicker.
Look closley, it has a disk brake and a Twin Cam engine.

Hey Guys
im as big in to Harleys as i am Triumphs but that looks like a Springer Softail Classic that they came out with a few years ago, and if im not mistaken they cancelled it for 2007. But i havent seen the movie yet but i cant wait to see it though im a huge Indy fan!

I don't think the movie makers cared much about this kind of detail, it looked the part...more or less. Remember that weird aircraft in the Holy Grail, not like any Luftwaffe type that I was aware of. Reminds me of "Saving Private Ryan" where soldiers waiting to land on Omaha beach had their rifles wrapped in polythene tubes!! When was polythene first available?

To Speilbergs defense, I guess you wouldn't want camera and crew standing around waiting at 1.32 Gazillion Dollars an hour while somebody tries to kick start the vintage bike. Plus brake performance (or lack of) fears.
But back to part topic, after seeing the movie, you tell us if you think even a new Harley could perform as filmed. Methinks there's some film trickery involved, but it's pretty cool anyway.

Ya know, after the suspension of disbelief, you'd think that they could have used CG to take out the obvious period errors like the disc brake if they went to the trouble of installing a fake kick-start. But I doubt many of us care about a few mistakes like that and it always makes for interesting trivia in the future like gladiators wearing watches in old CBD films.

Not to stray off topic but................

In Coal Miners Daughter, if you look at the scenery going by outside Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn's tour bus windows, you will see modern (ie 1979ish) cars zooming by, even though the movie takes place in the late 50's and early 60's.

The Indiana Jones films are great.

I haven't seen the new one yet, but when I think back over all 3 movies, there are many vehicle inaccuracies, because I think Spielberg took a "who cares" approach. His emphasis is just having a good action flick I think. I sort of respect him for it - you know, just make a fun film and to heck with historical accuracy.

The wierdo flying wing in raiders of the lost ark was pure fiction, but looked good, and what about those bikes in the chase in the last crusade? Modern dirt bikes in pre world war II Germany.............

It is fun trying to identify these various vehicles though.

As for other film inaccuracies, I don't know if you've seen any trailers / adverts for that film Pearl Harbour - there were inaccuracies where they said that it was good, and that people should go and see it.

And let's not forget those Matchless's in "the wild one" - look carefully, they're in the gang - an often overlooked marque, but plenty good in their day - and the first bike to actually ride 100 miles in an hour.

Right, I lost my way a bit there. Good show and all that, carry on.

That flying wing did exist but not in the form that you see in the movie....

Horton Ho IX (Gotha Go.229) Flying Wing

Shame about the new HD being in the indy movie... but that Hollywood... the destroyer of reality and world history as we know it. Im waiting for a Hollywood movie on Che Guevara - a story about him riding a Harley around south America.
