Smile Parking

My wife asked me to go downtown Indy for them. It was my day off. The first thing that ticked me off was when I pulled up to the parking garage the attendant from some 3rd world country comes out screaming at me that they don't allow motorcycles in the parking garage. I then back down the ramp and circle the block a couple of times to find a spot. I pull up to the car in front of the spot and back the bike in to the spot at a angle and rest my rear wheel on the curb. The day is going pretty good! I walk down to the bank and they only have one of the packets after this ordeal. Walking back to the bike is see this guy leaving a ticket for parking. THE TICKET SAYS I'M TO PARK PARALLEL TO THE CURB WITH MY REAR WHEEL ON THE CURB I don't think I can do this? . I drive over to the city county building and park on a open lot. The young lady at the window understands the impossibility of the request. Too much trouble to fight it! $22.30 dollars paid out for stupid? On the other hand I drove out to the Indy 500 track to fan appreciation days and had a great time. I got to take the bike around the track , walk the pits , meet some of the drivers and have some good food.

Why would motorcycles be prohibited from a parking garage? I've never encountered that, and I think that I would be mightily annoyed if I did. I'm willing to pay the same as a car and park in a spot that's no good for a car anyway. They should see motorcycles as a source of free money.

Prohibited in a lot of em in Charlotte too. Also I used to work in downtown Charlotte and my building had parking underneath the building. Part of it had been set aside for motorcycle parking but motorcycles were not allowed to use it. Reason ????? complaints about the noise from loud piped bikes.

Motorcycles aren't allowed in parking garages because they can swerve around barriers and leave without paying. Still, there needs to be legislative action taken. Cycles are more fuel efficient and take up less space in these crowded, polluted urban areas, so the local governments should be passing regulations encouraging the use of scooters and motorcycles, not punishing it.

We can already use the HOV lanes, so why not have special angled parking spaces for them? You can get at least three or four in the space one car normally requires, so how about a little support here? At my wife's work they have special parking spaces for hybrid vehicles, but nothing for two-wheelers. This is bass-ackward if you asked me.

Honestly, I've been thinking for some time that the AMA should take this up as a legislative cause on the basis of fuel economy, clean air, and less parking requirements for commuters. It's time!

I have heard of parking garages not allowing bikes. Here in Boston, they are cracking down on bikes parked at the ends of the block and not in a real space; so I have heard. Just a revenue generator if you ask me.

I bow down to you as well! I haven't been to the Indy 500 since 1982 but I clearly remember nothing ever being louder than an Indy car and I have been to many NASCAR races and the Summer Nationals at Englishtown!

We have a few friendly cities around NZ, cars pay in parking bays in the street but there are free bike parks at each end of the bays. Off-road parking is the same. It makes sense, why not have bike parks instead of forcing bikes to take up a car parking space and charge them when in actual fact you are only using 1/4 of the car space. Not all councils see it that way but many do.

Just saw a pic in the newspaper here that outside and inside the university they are making more bike parks due to gas prices are bringing out more riders.

Ride on !
