What's going on here?

Planes playing at being 'gators?
& these two look like they're trying to mate.

Strange days indeed.

Bet the owner of that Stinson Voyager is PISSED! Looks like no one was hurt, tho....except someone's pride.

Some years back, I had ridden up to a "fly-in" in the mountains of NC (took the old Beezer...it made it!!). The small airport was beside a golf course and ended at a water hazard. While I was chatting with an old friend, we watched a guy (golfer, not coming for the fly-in) come in on landing....he was ready for touchdown when my friend said, "uh-oh...no flaps!" (those slow the plane down for landing) Pilot hit the brakes hard, but was going too fast...skipped the 'bird off the water hazard twice, then went into the drink. We pulled the guy out of the airplane but it was a write-off...he hit the throttles when he realized that he wouldn't make it, but .....tooo late! Sort of like hard braking while in a sharp curve on a bike...NOT a good idea.

Photos are around here somewhere...

Seeing the piggyback landing pics reminded me of some photos that a former co-worker had shown me years ago of a crash that his father was involved in during WW2.

http://home.st.net.au/~dunn/ozcrashes/nsw144.htm

His dad was the pilot of the bottom plane.

The moral? Never subcontract pontoon construction to Moto Guzzi (we've gotta give the Harley riders a break occasionally).

I can't decide if the first plane is saying "come on in, the water's fine!" or "Help me!"

Classic.

The Piper driver doesn't visually clear the space below before begininning descent. The Stinson driver doesn't clear above before begininng the approach. Nobody looked behind their respective wing.

The same thing happened a few years ago. The "receiving" pilot (an instructor) flew both aircraft to a safe landing. They pulled the upper Piper off and the lower Cessna 152 flew home for a maintenance inspection under a ferry permit.
