The Ultimate New Triumph for 2009
How about a thread where WE design the ultimate new bike offering for Triumph, to be unveiled in 2009.
Maybe at the end we can mail it to Triumph Marketing? Couldn’t hurt! I’m thinking of a Long Range Tourer, as I’m sick & tired of seeing BMW’s and Harleys used for long trips and ‘round the world marathons. I’d like to see Triumph design one so we don’t need to jump ship. Others of course may have different viewpoints; lets have at it!
I’ll start:
1.) I’d like to see a long range touring bike to go up against the likes of a BMW 1200 RS, or say A Harley Davidson Road King.
2.) Cruises very easily all day at 80 MPH, ergonomically designed seats for long range comfort, for both Driver and Pillion. Fuel economy in the 60 to 70 MPG range. Fairing(s) and hard luggage standard.
3.) Price Point: USD$14 – 16 K, slightly below Harley, well below BMW.

I thought that's what the Rocket III Touring was for. It's not my style but it meets all your criteria. Well, maybe a tad over $16,000. $16,999 to be exact.

Daytona 1100 superbike. Radically oversquare narrow angle V3 with one piece cylinder head in uprated D675 chassis. 165+ hp @ about 12,000 rpm, linear torque, SSSA & about 370lb. And I thought I had no imagination....

I think the Rocket III is a little "over the top" engine wise, which I believe may have been the intention. Great I guess for bragging rights, but a little too big for my taste, and I'm not so sure about the seat comfort for the pillion, and saddlebags. Price also is a little steep. We're trying to outdo Harley and BMW here.
Trying to find something new and revolutionary here, if you get my drift.

Just an FYI, as I am primarily a Bonneville guy, and stick around the Triumph Twins and Biker Hangout forums.
If you go over to the "Rocket Science" Forum, it seems there are a LOT of unhappy owners. Complaints about seat comfort, gas mileage 25-30 MPG, being a Harley clone, and so on. That said, I don't think this is a good starting platform.
Let's design something new!! Revolutionary!! Clean slate!!

Not exactly new or revolutionary; but a simple solution would be to combine the last generation Trophy chasis with the latest 1050 motor
