Simulator in action at last!

After posting several videos about the making of a motorbike simulator, here it is up and running at last:

And or anyone who missed the earlier films about it being made, check out this page:

Are there any guns, or a bazooka maybe?

Can it give a dyno read out as well?
With the right telemetry, you should be able to tune a bike while it's running in simulated real world conditions.
I can see the advantage of that.

PS The car version is linked over the internet, allowing people from all over the world to race each other. It'll be cool if they get this one running the same.

Well it's a cool concept but what a shame to see that D675 relegated to a stationary existence!

Also the engine didn't sound like a sport bike. It sounded like a big Beemer adventurer/tourer type.

Oh and trypcil, let's add an EMP device as well.

It may be using a Triumph, but it is NOT the only simulator around.

There is also this one:

Looks like an excellent start. There are some obvious improvements, though. At one point the engine is at 9000 rpm, and an upshift takes it down to 2500 or 3000 rpm. What are they simulating, a two-speed transmission? And I'm not sure if the lean is really being being initiated by the hydraulic arms in realistic countersteering fashion.

Very cool though. I'd love to know how it simulates and records lowsides or highsides.

No guys it's great, what are your purposes in constructing such a thing?

As promised I have chased upsome feedback from the engineers...

The guys behind this project are currently studying for exams but had a read of what has been written on the message boards and asked me to post this as their reply:

"Thanks everyone for taking an interest in the simulator. Currently it is in testing stages. A full dynamics model is being prepared which will account for counter steering and other steering problems viewers seem to have picked up on. The current arrangement of the bike is in a state just to show potential researchers what the bike will soon be capable of.
The whole design of the bike has been designed in such away to allow for the changes that the future has in hold. The way the bike responds is determined by a computer program which can be fully altered. At the minute the simulator is a complex piece of hardware that can be fully altered and in its current state is no inclination of what it is capable of.
I thank you all for your comments and suggestions. All of the problems with the simulator that have been posted on these forums have been analysed and we are fully aware of, we hope to include all of these things in time. The current simulator is currently capable of most of these problems but is yet to be released and for the purpose of the filming and the open day we did not think it was suitable to show an unfinished product, hence the simplified model you all viewed. Our aim is produce a simulator that is capable of a large number of problems and in the future can be added upon to improve it. Please do not take the current state of the simulator as a finish product it is far from it. So in conclusion watch this space!!
Regards,
The MotorCycleSim Engineers."

And speaking of watching this space, I have just finished some more filming with the lead researcher who has done some other really interesting work into motorcycle design, ergonomics and safety which I’ll pop onto the mesage board later this week to see what you all think!

A tremendous achievement I guess, but what is the point of it?

And why is the guy on it wearing a helmet - H&S requirements?

I'm waiting for the deer to run in front of it, or the teenage girl in the SUV on the cell phone applying makeup to sideswipe it.

Seriously, if it can get to that point, it might be good for training riders.
