New Indian $$$$$

So my buddy dropped a grand last year for a deposit on the new Indians...
he gets an email the other day from them asking to pick which model (bags, screen, fenders, colour, etc) he wants...the prices range from:

31 to 40 THOUSAND DOLLARS....

...I'm sure that Indian did not intend for the prices to get that high. I think that they just lost all of their middle-class customers. In this day and age, even if you had 40 grand laying around, you could buy 2 good cars and a new Bonneville for that amount...

I would say that they are targeting the Malcolm Forbes groupies, i.e., the poser weekend RUB warriors who want to have an expensive trophy in the garage to dust off occasionally and show to their like-minded business associates.

Real Indian motorcycle's were about performance, and were available to the regular guy. Don't look for them to be in business very long, as even the RUB's are not going to have that kind of cash to blow with the existing and future economic downturn!

For ten grand and some change, couldn't you find a decent second hand Indian?

Pretty high, but if you're in the market for the Indian you're not THAT surprised.
Isn't Indian backed by the same guys that revived the Chris Craft boatmaker name? They make a premium boat for the high end of the market. They seem to be doing well with a small market slice. Kind of like Triumph, eh?

With the Indian you're basically getting a small-batch semi-custom iconic bike with a huge amount of bragging rights. You'd be spending alot of time telling gawkers about the bike every time you stop.
I'm also guessing they're building a very quality product. I can't wait to see one!

I'd rather have a confederate or a custom for that kind of money - from someone who I know will be in business next year.

Compared To What?

Good looking bike compared to an Orange County Chopper.
How much for one of those things?

I remember when the older "new" Indians came out. The cheapest Scout was $17K.

That's ridiculous!

Indian needs an entry level bike that costs under $10k. Even Harley enthusiasts will admit that the Sportster is the reason that Harley has been as successful as it is.

Just my .02

Is this the 'new' motor that they were developing prior to the last demise of the company or an S&S thing?

I would think that if a 'new' company was going to come out with a new model for 2009, that they would come up with some technology beyond pushrods and external oil tanks.
Have they not heard of 'Unit Construction'?

indian

I had a 46 Chief, a real Indian. there were many inovations on those bikes that the current harly wanabee's dont have. it takes more than a pretend harley with big fenders to make a real Indian.

I see Indian is listing the specs and artist's rendering for the bikes. Wouldn't it be cool if Triumph would do the same with the long-awaited 2009 Mystery Cruiser?

Man, are those Indians sweet-looking!
