richb you bring an interesting - and in large part I think accurate - perspective on the state of the English game.

And yeah I know there are lots of other gripes too.....but at the end of the day I just love watching a good game of competitive football.
And Man U, when they are "on", play a lovely brand of foottie that is a pleasure to watch.

Go Reds

Congrats to Man U & well deserved IMO.

RichB makes good points IMO, but that's just the way it is & probably the way the Premiership will stay for the foreseeable future.

I've supported Fulham for over 40 years (yeah, I know- not a smart choice!) & I'm still celebrating their remarkable Houdini effort & survival in the Premiership .

There's even a chance that they could be in the UEFA cup next season, due to the obscure European Fair Play League process - we should find out next week.

The Game Plan

Hard luck Reading last game of the season and a 4-0 win but still not enough.
Those lucky git's Fulham just sneaking in and of course Derby won the worst team ever award. The biggest trouble with the premiership is no limit on overseas players. This is one of the biggest reason England as a team are bloody woe-full, there's not much insentive for clubs to run good youth squads when they can buy overseas players. What happend to the two oversea's player limit. I'd rather watch the Coca Cola Challenge, (thank god for Foxtel) better football more blood 'n' guts determination and good hard fought out game's.
I still hope that Man U beat Chelski in Moscow and Pompie win the FA cup this weekend. Sorry have to go with Pompie it's my home town.
The Ball & Chain come's from Southampton and lived across the road from the Dell as a kid, so is a dyed in the wool Southampton supporter. I do enjoy sticking it to her about Pompie still in the premiership.
Well must dash have to do the washing up

[quote=richb;1026304]Although it is a great achievement, anyone but a die-hard Man U fan would admit that it owes as much to money as talent. Since the inception of the Premiership in 1992, Man U have had the biggest domestic stadium, the largest merchandising effort and all the global links (the tie-in with the Yankees, for example).

I was a season ticket holder up until the 13/5/05. This was the day that the greatest footaball club on earth was bought out by the Glazer's.
I, like many others, threw my season ticket away in disgust!
Manchester United, owned by Americans, Sir Matt Busby must have turned in his grave! I have never been to Old Trafford since.
Right, that's got that moan out of the way.
Richb, I agree with you that United over the last 6 or 7 seasons have become a 'buying' club, relying on foreign players making up the majority of the squad. But before that you seem to have forgotten 'Fergies Fledglings'
Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and David Beckham. These players made up the core of the team for many seasons and all came through the youth team, Giggsy has just won his 10th title!
I still follow United progress on TV and will be watching the Final hoping for a repeat of 1999.
I am afraid the Premiership is more about money than football nowadays so I follow my local side, Morecambe, come on the shrimps!
Anyway Richb, I see you are a 'gooner' so I have attached a photo of me with the 'treble trophies' in 99, so as you can see what they look like together. I wonder if 'Arsenal' will ever be engraved on the European Cup?

Hahaha LMAO! Arsenal, European Champions? If only... Supporting them is the most frustrating experience. When they're on form, which is 90% of the time, they are easily the most watchable team in the Premiership (even Man U fans say that!). The other 10% of the time they are truly woeful, which is why they haven't won anything in 3 seasons. I think next season is do or die for Wenger.
You Yanks play amongst yourselves for a minute... the grown-ups are talking!
