AC/DC and INXS are too obvious, but I met Peter Garret back when I was doing college promotions in the late '80's and saw a couple of Midnight Oil shows that absolutely rocked. My first club show was Hunters & Collectors and they were pretty amazing. My latest show from the land of Oz was a birthday present for my wife who's been a Rick Springfield fan since she was a teen. I'm almost embarassed to admit that the Rickster puts on one of the best rock shows and knows how to work an audience better than almost anybody I've ever seen and I've seen at least a few thousand concerts. That's evened out by a few shows by the Church and the Hoodoo Gurus back in the day but the Wiggles, now that evil cult needs to be taken out.

I've seen Tommy live a couple of times over the years - absolutely brilliant guitarist. That clip was for Stevies Blues I think (a tribute to Stevie Vai), Initiation and Classical Gas are 2 of my favourites.

If your more into folk/blues another good aussie we saw in outback NT recently is Chris Aronsten. http://www.chrisaronsten.com/

Oddly enough Waltzing Matilda was the very first song I could sing the words to and is probably the only Aussie song I still know, it was taught in school for some reason ! Other than what Kylie sings of course, and not forgetting Rolf Harris !

You mention some great bands there. The Hoodoos were great in the 80's as was the Church (though I never saw them play straight - band not audience!) Come to think of it I never saw the audience straight at an Oil's concert either :-). I'm teaching my daughter to play some hoodoo gurus stuff.

Unguarded Moment by the Church was the first riff I eve tabbed out and put on the net!

Inxs were good fun live as well, but the teeny boppers that were in love with Hutchence did detract from the shows musical quality :-)

Ah the 80's what I remember was utterly fantastic! - thanks for the memory jogger.

I was lucky to see Dave Hole here in Austin many years ago. Man that little guy can play. I'll never forget the energy those band members had. That was my "Initiation" into musicians from down under. And of course, Angus.
