Carbon emission rort ?

Another global con ? or a serious attempt to reduce pollution ?

Report says the NZ governments participation in the Kyoto accord will make it billions of dollars. Industry says it's just another tax. The main global polluters, those responsible for emitting the bulk of carbon are not part of this scheme.

The report:

I don't have anything against the "polluter pays" principle, but the idea that a new tax regime is installed via the back door as part of an emotive emissions bill sounds like UK or Irish politics. Politicians the world over... can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em.

I don't get the polluter pays principle. I can't see how paying more to poison the planet is going to save anything. We're still polluting, it justs costs more.

Personally I don't think warming the planet has least if anything to do with humans and certainly not animals. It's about polluting the environment particularly in the cities and industrial areas. I would rather walk thru acres of cows than acres of city or industry fumes.

The whole report is based on the fact that ruminants eat grain and grain has it's own carbon price, well in this country 99% of cows and sheep are not grain fed, they are pasture fed. The rest, probably less than 1% are specially fed for the niche Japanese market that prefers grain fed beef.

Keeping animals caged indoors and siphoning off gas is considered a humane answer ? Ours are range free animals, none of them are barned.

All vegetarian creatures fart, it won't be long before humans in this PC world are paying a fart tax and extractors installed in homes to measure it !

I'm all for keeping the environment free and clean but in my opinion this carbon trend is just another rip-off that replaced the Y2K computer scam.

Looks like some governments and self publicising scientists like to keep us worried about something, this is the latest.

In a 100 years time looking back, history will label us gullible morons.

Well this is our fault, so why shouldn't we pay for it!

I'm not against paying.
I'd just like to know how that's going to stop a single glacier melting?
Oil is more than five times the price it was 20 years ago, but we're consuming more of it than ever before.
Ask any addict what they're prepared to pay to get their fix.
Well the whole world is hooked on fossil fuels.

Yes, it is. So what? Over 50 years ago, German scientists made all the fuel the blitzkrieg needed out of coal. When the current supply runs out, someone will manage to be almost as clever as they were in WWII, and come up with a replacement. I'm betting it will be a replacement that will allow to keep using our present gas stations and engines. There's a good chance it will reduce the volume of a lot of landfills too. If the government will get out of the way and stay there, this problem will be solved when the solution is truly needed.

So how much will this cult cost us ? Now is the time to put their money where their mouth is, rather than putting our money where their mouth is. It's serious question time:
