Correct Wave Protocol
This is a piggyback off of a lower thread...Didn't want to hijack it.
What is the propper form of the motorcyle wave? In my short riding career I've seen several variations. From the palm up/lame 'Hi guys!!!' regular wave to the serious two-finger down-could-be-mistaken-as-a-left-turn-hand-signal. Which do you use? I've heard the two fingers down means to 'keep two wheels down'... I guess vs. up, which is nice...kind of like a well wishing...

Whatever you feel like. Even a head nod works when your hands are occupied. I have noticed some of the cruiser riders have started doing a simulated low 5 type thing. I guess it's easier when your half laying on your back and have your feet in the air.

I find, using a hand normally works best.....
Seriously tho...If on a straight, clear road...a hey, whats up type of wave...
If 'occupied on a bend or similar....a nod or the two fingers off the left grip with a nod...
If wanting to warn riders of possible trouble ahead....(COPS etc) the given move round here is to tap the top of your helmet. I hear this varies around the world, in the UK, we used to use a 'thumbs down' to approaching riders

Man, some people need instructions on how to pick their nose.
You take your left hand of the handlebars & wave it in the air.
If you already know how to busta move, it'll look cool. If you don't, it'll look as klutzy as everything else you do.
PS If I'm coming out of a good set of twisties, I'll give opposing riders either a thumbs up, or a thumbs down, to indicate whether there's any cop action happening. & if I know that they're heading into an imminent speed trap, I'll give the time-honoured slowdown signal of repeatedly pushing down emphatically with my hand.

Some riders in Europe lift their left leg, and keep their hands on the bars. Not a bad idea, but I doubt it'll catch on here in the US.

I doubt it'd catch on here either.
You'd look like a dog looking for a tree.

You only tend to use the leg thing in the UK, where you can't wave to one another without letting go of the throttle - therefore, leg or nod - usually nod. That said, over here in mainland Europe, it does feel a sight more friendly with everyone waving. They were some right miserable buggers in London, never nodding or acknowledging other riders.

In fairness, if you waved to every rider in London a) you'd never change gear, b) you'd be flattened by a Post Office/plumbers/gangsta/courier van 'cos you weren't going fast enough.
