The 'worlds coolest boat', Earthrace, is making its second attempt at the speed record for a power boat to circumnavigate the globe.

Earthrace is a 24m (78ft) tri-hull wavepiercer that has been designed and built specifically to get the record for a powerboat to circumnavigate the globe and runs on 100% bio-diesel.
She is an advanced endurance vessel, capable of submarining up to 7m (23ft) underwater as she powers across oceans.

Their previous attempt last year was fraught with bad luck and was unsuccessful.

I wish the all the luck they need in this attempt.

.... thanks Wombat - I knew he was leaving for his second attempt but thought it was next week!
Peter Bethune is a very determined and resourceful man and deserves to succeed this time.
I'll be tracking his progress.

I saw this boat twice last year, once as it followed us in to port in Kinsale, Ireland, and a second time moored up by the wharf in Porto down in Portugal in November. It is a seriously freaking piece of kit. Check it out if it comes by near you.

Now that Hawaii has an inter-island ferry, I hope to be able to get over to Maui when they stop to refuel.
