Mattrat,

I just saw one of episodes - the final of I think 6 - when they are crossing the USA from west to east, ending up in New York.

The TV series is... O.K., I thinks it's hard to capture the feeling of being on the long road on film. Great scenery and views, etc.

On the negative side, IMHO, they look absolutely wiped out (as in waaay overtired) in every scene and interview.

I've been trying to talk my wife into a cross-country trip for ages, had her on the ropes, then this film made her back off again. She said "THAT doesn't look like much fun, it looks more like a marathon!"

Aaaahhh... women, can't live with 'em, can't live witho....

mcewan got the idea for his book and his journey from ted simon, who wrote a fantastic book called "jupiter's travels". he traveled around most of the world on his '78(?) triumph tiger. see http://www.jupitalia.com/Jupiter.html. i got the tip off on this book from a guy who was next to me in line on the day of my motorcycle road test.
