Insurance Question- General New Motorcycle

Hello all. I've ridden dirt bikes all my life but finally jumped over to a road bike. Getting a Speed Triple this weekend.
I have completed all the safety courses and what not.
I am pricing insurance, and not sure what I should get. The bike is not being financed, so I don't have those limitations.
I am getting insurance quotes that vary greatly in what they cover and what the premium will end up being.
What do some of you state-side recommend as minimum coverage I should be looking to get?

Personally, I went for the maximum of what was available which was 100,000/300,000 for both bodily injury and uninsured motorist coverage. Also got comprehensive and collision but with a high deductible because I'm less concerned about that. My company is Geico.

Thanks for replying. What is your reasoning behind your max choice?
Does anyone know the possible concerns if I went with coverage of half of that (50/150)?
The premium difference between the two coverage amounts is almost double; I'm looking for justification as to why.

I went for max basically just because I'm a very cautious person and it wasn't all that expensive ($400 per year).

Just received my renewal and it less than $400 max coverage for the year.

Again, age, driving record, martial status and where you live play into it. Geico is my car insurance but not my motorcycle insurance. An insurance broker in Southern California hooked me up with this company (American Modern Ins. Co.). They will find the lowest deal for you from whom ever will provide the lowest price.

www.allcountyins.com

The amount of coverage depends on how much you have to lose if it is your fault. Ex: House, condo, cars, motorcycles, bank accounts an so-on.

check out progressive.com...good rates, equally good service. i've heard if you purchase from a local progressive rep you'll get it a little cheaper than the online price

Progressive was nearly double the next closest quote for the same exact coverage. May work for you, but I'll pass on them.

+1 Progressive is high.
Geico is high
Farmers and State Farm were the best for me. I went with Farmers...
100/300 full coverage, uninsured, comp and collision... $17/month... that's for a 2008 H-D 1584cc bike.

I have Safeco and it's $350/yr for 100/300 coverage. I need to have it recalculated now that I'm 25 and married.

I went with the highest coverage I could get because I figure on a motorcycle any claim is either going to be really small (couple thousand for dropping it and skidding down the road) or really large (my passenger and I get thrown from the bike and end up in the ICU for several weeks). I want my ass covered for the worse scenario!

Also, remember that it's not only how good of a rider you are. I can tell you from experience there's a lot of uninsured drivers out there who, after hitting you, will simply pay a $150 fine for lack of insurance and you get stuck with everything else!
