Cool Gigs

A few of you on here already know i do my bit for the music business and with this job you meet some great people on the way. As a big fan of Rock Music I try and get to see as many bands as i can. Just in the last few weeks - Velvet Revolver with Slash, Pearl with Meat Loafs offspring, Stone Gods with the guys from The Darkness and last night took a trip to Brixton, London to see The Black Crowes and in a few weeks time another trip to London to see Joe Satriani.

I was just wandering if you guys have been to any gigs lately.

From an almost deaf S3 rider.

Whoa! That's some live music you've seen. And Satch on the way.
I'm envious.
Even though I live in the music city of Austin, we don't get big shows here, who opt out to play larger metropolitan cities like Houston or Dallas (San Antonio some).
Last great show was Zappa plays Zappa. Too much. Three hour and twenty min show.

Some great stuff!
I went to the G3 tour last year here in Boston, 4/th row.
My friend JohnnyA was called up for the encores.

Joe's been doing some teaching here in Boston.

In the spirit of getting future passes to hang out with my motorcycle buddies and hit the back roads of New England - I just bought my wife tickets to see the Eagles at the Prudential Center in NJ on May 24th and tickets to see Steely Dan at the Beacon Theater in NYC on June 13th. She has begged me to see these two bands for over 5 years but it just never was possible. I should be in good shape for this summer for these two!

Tap your left foot.
Thanx for the heads up on Steely Dan. I'm gonna check to see if they are playing any where down this way.

I generally only go to see local bands and (mostly) acoustic acts. My last actual concert was Neil Young a few years ago. At some point in my life I realized that many live shows suck unless the room's acoustics are good, the band's equipment is good, and the sound people know what they're doing to match the sound to the room. I would rather hear the CD most of the time. And this is just me - most bands play too **** loud for my taste.

Some of the best concerts I've ever been to were in theaters and outdoor stages. All-purpose arenas are fine if, again, the band's staff is able to pull off a match. I saw U2 at an echo-plagued arena and the sound was flawless, like I was listening to a CD. When Pearl Jam played the same venue it sounded like a cheap Peavey in a trash dumpster with the volume turned to 11.

Hedge, those two bands will no doubt sound great. Steely Dan has the advantage with the Beacon, but I'm quite sure that the Eagles will be able to pull it off beautifully.

My wife and I went to see Chris Rea two weeks ago when his tour came to Nottingham.

Great gig, she'd never heard much of his stuff before so she came away a real convert!

Just before that I was at my own gig ... we were great too ;-)
