How many fingers

How many fingers do you use on the front brake lever?

When I started learning I had difficulty controlling the throttle and pulling the brake if I used all my fingers on the lever so I used two fingers on the lever and the rest of my hand controlling the throttle.

On my practical road test, emergency stop, the examiner yelled at me for not using all my fingers on the brake - I passed anyway

For a while afterwards I made a point of using all fingers on the brake but I've now reverted to two fingers which seems to work just fine - enough to avoid the six strong deer strike on Sunday anyway.

Should I feel bad if I don't use all my fingers to pull the brake?

I was given a hard time for only using 2 fingers during my MSF course but I don't see a problem with it and continue to use two.

The reason they like you to use all your fingers, is so the two on the throttle-grip don't get trapped under hard braking. But if you've had an emergency stop without probs, I'd stick with what you're comfortable with.
Personally I only ride with my hand on the brake (4 fingers) when I'm cruisng the hwy, as I find throttle contol a bit compromised. So I keep a firm grip of it, when I'm going through the twisties. & I've developed a lightning quick reflex grab-the-d*mn-lever action, which my MSF instructor hated too, but works for me.

I use 2 fingers on the brake hand and if it is an emergency stop the other hand brigs up 1 finger!

Generally 2, sometimes I alternately place my fingers on the levers to provide different 'rest' periods to prevent ache, I like to keep my hands loose and flexible. But use 3 for big stops with the little pinkie not really gripping.

Ride on !

Two for the Honda and four for the T-Bird. Would use two on the 'Bird if it had better brakes.
