ATC 2K Camera Test

I've bought another video camera called an ATC 2K. It's all contained in one unit, so there's no wiring or recording unit to be bothered with. But it's bigger & heavier than the Motocom unit, which means that it's a hassle to wear on my helmet, & is best mounted on the handle bars.
The picture quality has better colour & resolution than the Motocom unit, but doesn't cope with speed as well, which makes me think that it's refresh rate isn't as good. The picture's a lot better after it's been through the movie-maker editing program.
Anyway I strapped it to the Street Triple & took it for a blast.
Here's the results.

What do you all think?
Is it worth using, or should I stick to the Motocom?

For those who haven't seen my Motocom camera's work, here's another clip.

Opinions?

I have one too, I paid about $130 us for it brand new, off e-bay with the 2 gig card. It`s good value and useful for riding behind mates so they can check their lines, riding position etc.

The main issue I have with it, is that the icons on the display are so small I can`t read them without a magnifying glass, so it`s difficult to adjust the settings.

Well you got yours for about half what I paid Rob.
& I totally agree with you about the icons. I can't even read them with my glasses on, & have to get a young mate to set it for me. He wants to use it for surfing & skateboard footage, which it'd be better at capturing I think. & I'm debating whether to sell it to him, or hold on to it.

I`ve found the trick with e-bay, especially for an item like this where there are several sellers offering it at a 'buy it now' price, is to keep looking all the way to the last page. That`s where it`s half the price of the ones on the first few pages.

I got mine from happy nursery, here`s another one from them,

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....2BSI%26otn%3D4

I bought a $2 magnifying glass which I carry with me to change the settings!

The twisties part of this vid was shot on the Rex Range Rd, which is 5 klms s/w of the sugar-mill town of Mossman (80 klm nth of Cairns city), & rise up to the Jullaten Tableland (Nthn Atherton Tablelands).
If any one's interested in seeing the full ride up, as well as the decent. I've just posted the vids in the thread I posted about the range rds of Nth Qld. in the rides forum. Here's the link.

Only checked out the 1st one so far Scratch, it seems to work well. Will watch the other and comment for you.

Was that taken on the Gillies?

Looks a great ride, but those red earth walls looked like washouts from rain, what were they?

Doh! Just saw the 2nd vid is off the Gillies.

The helmet cam on the second vid gives better field of vision but doesn't show your lean angles as well. The first also captures a better engine note and less wind noise, but I don't like it on the bars as much as the helmet,or as others have done, the fork or side fairing/frame. But that's just personal opinion from watching these 2 clips, others' opinions will likely vary.

Russ

I'd say the new one looks better. The greater clarity and richer color are the main reasons I say that. Beautiful countryside, too, BTW.

Yeah the red slashes are recent washouts, exposing the red volcanic soil. The white slashes on the Gillies run are also washouts, but the soil's poorer there. Which is why it can't support rain-forest. Both ranges were closed for a week, after the last heavy rains we got here, a month ago.
My closest mountain road, which goes up to the city's water reservoir, has been closed since then, & could take up to 6 months to repair, as it's suffered serious structural damage. The reservoir workers are being flown up there in choppers, which must be costing us ratepayers a packet.

Ive had one of them cams for a while now. Took me ages to get it working right but found Lithium batteries help no end.
Your never going to film any great Oscar winning films with them but they do the trick for general use and they are pretty hardy which is good for off road stuff.
Anyway, heres a couple of vid's ive done.
This is just a steady ride out with my brother around the local area. Its mounted on my brothers bike (Yam Belgarda TTR600. Me on XR400)

I use the ULead program to edit, add photos and music etc.

Heres one of me and a few mates riding through some stream. Quite amusing, took me ages to dry my boots out after that day.

Youtube destroys the quality a bit. but its a rough idea.
Camera would be better mounted on your helmet etc but in a way i like it mounted on the bars cause it shows the work involved in riding a bike if you see what i mean?!?!?!
All good fun
