Weekend at Bernie's

The 2008 Formula 1 car season kicks off in Australia on Sunday. I was interested in F1 from the late Sixties but stopped watching it about 5 years ago. The cars are spectacularly fast but all the real racing & appeal has waned for me. This is sad because there's lots of great car racing going on around the world (Aussie V8s, DTM, European F3 etc.) but F1 just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Does anybody here watch the F1 races, I wonder?

Used to enjoy it, but now your lucky if you get 2 passes per race - very boring.

I have to say I've watched F1 for the last 25 years and I still enjoy it, I still get excited at the start of the season. It did get a bit boring through the MS years but the last couple of years have been great and with the loss of traction control this year it may well be better.

I watch it and still love it. I do sleep through the mid parts of some of the races but compared to the stupid yellow flag infested NASCAR garbage that goes on and on and on and on and while were at it lets throw a yellow for debri because there is one more commercial we need to run and on and on, it is great.

Hey street, why is there an H on your avatar's head?

Thanks, I'd forgotten about that. Let's hope it does improve things. When 90% of overtaking only happens during pitstops, I believe there's something terribly wrong. It strikes me that those involved in running F1 just can't see this. Yes, it's an incredible spectacle but it's supposed to be racing....

Just before the Daytona 500, a couple of weeks ago, ESPN had a 90 minute programme on the story of D. Earnhardt Jr changing teams. I think that watching paint dry is about as interesting as that. However, I thought the race was pretty good & that's what really matters IMO.

I have watched F1 for the past 35 years and in that time I have only missed a handful.I enjoy it and go to planetf1.com daily to get the updates.

I agree that overtaking is a problem but the powers that seem to know this too as they can see that the numbers of spectators are dropping .I think in 2009 they are going to do serious changes.

I say get rid of all driver aids like Champ car ,bring back slicks etc .

I know that people argue saying driver aids have helped the normal cars on the roads to become safer.I say do the tests on road vehicles and let the racers race!

Harty, I harterly agree Bring back slicks, reduce aero and also limit the design to reduce the dirty air problem.
